Ensemble Studios Changing Quarters

Ensemble Studios is planning to relocate its office to Plano (Texas) in April 2008, according to published reports.

Moving from their current office highrise in Dallas, their new 50000 square-foot office, housing about 120 employees, will be located at the Shops at Legacy, an urban lifestyle center.

Interestingly enough, Plano is also home to Gearbox Software, a games development studio which worked on the PC adaptation of the first game in Halo series with Microsoft. It's likely this is not a coincidence, as Ensemble Studios is currently working on Halo Wars strategy game for PC and Xbox360.

FFA Fun Series - Spring Series 2008

The forummer LordPatrick18 has already started to organize the next FFA Fun Series! The League will commence on Saturday 19th of January 2008 and will continue every Saturday for 10 weeks. So don't waste your time and sign up right now! But in case you have never participated, here's a small paragraph from the thread:
Twice yearly, I organise a FFA League here at HeavenGames, with Fun being the sole aim. There are no prizes, except bragging rights for 6 Months, an perhaps a nice colour like Sporting or Cookie‘s J. There have only been 2 Leagues previous to this, both of which were hugely successful, but I hope that the first League of 2008 will surpass both previous League’s with flying colours in terms of enjoyment and participation.
Sounds really fun, huh? Feel free to express your willingness to join and read more about the league here. If you have any doubts, contact LordPatrick in ESO or ask it in the FFA Fun Series thread.

Good luck to everyone!

Napoleonic Era - DEMO RELEASED!

As a special Christmas present to all of us, the Napoleonic Era Team has released a demo version of its upcoming version! This demo gives you the chance to playtest three of the nine new civilizations in Napoleonic Era: the Prussians, Swedes and Italians. You can read more about those civilizations and the whole project in the NE Website. Note that you will need The Asian Dynasties v1.00 to run the demo.

The mod is very easy to install, but remember to remove any other mods you have before doing so. To uninstall, all you need to do is to run the uninstallation executable. You won't be able play multiplayer games, the campaign or run the editor with this demo.

If you have any questions, suggestions or anything to say about the demo, post it in the NE Website or in its thread at Modding Discussions. The NE Team wishes you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

  • Age Auction

Just a reminder that the Age Auction for charity is coming to an end soon. The auction will be ending Dec-14-07 16:36:41 PST - so if you want to give an age fan (or a certain cherub *hint*hint*) the perfect gift, you do not have much time left.

Keep in mind, all proceeds go to Child's Play

Child's Play enables the gamer community to make a positive difference in the lives of children and young adults, primarily through donations of toys and games to childrens' hospitals around the world as well as funding pediatric health research.

    Dojo's Effectiveness Examined

cu3hara has done some good math about the dojo's available to Japan from the home city. It looks like some people might want to start sending these cards!

Interestingly, it's worth a reasonable amount of Age 3 vils (+30% F/C and +60% W market upgrades), which is when you can send the thing. Switching to different units is fast at 2s, but unless you catch it at the right time, you waste time invested in the current queue.

You can see the full math behind it here!

    AOE3 Maps Quick Reference

The forummer kilmaim created a small and handy quick reference guide for the Age of Empires maps. It's a image containing a minimap of all the 35 maps from Age of Empires III, The War Chiefs and The Asian Dynasties. You can use it as a practical guide to memorize the general layout of each map.
To download the image right now just click here. You may also access our General Discussions Forum and comment about it.

    AOE3/TWC/TAD Quick Reference

Cyclohexane, known for his very informative and interactive Quick Reference Guides, has now completed its latest version. It includes TAD info and many improvements on top of what you have seem before! In case you haven't downloaded any of his previous guides, then read this short description:
Originally I made a huge list of changes I made from the TWC to TAD Guide but it is so long I doubt there are many in the ADD age that will read it all. My advice is to look through every sheet as if it is new because I pretty much changed everything a little and some things a lot.

This Guide answers all of the common questions and a few you never thought to ask. In general, I tried to group the worksheet tabs in categories and in alphabetical order. I also started coloring coding the worksheet tabs for easier grouping. I can find anything in the guide within a few seconds, just look for key words. The following topics are covered...
A must have for anyone who want to extend his knowledges about the game. Feel free to discuss it in our General Discussions Forum

    Guide to India

Grottenmolch has written a great little guide to India. This guide is not just for new players either - it is great read regardless of your level.

Many players have troubles with India because they are slightly up. During my long time playing with them I have discovered some strats that helped me a lot. I don’t know if the following was there like this before or was discovered the same way by some others. I don’t have a special name for it, but here it is..

    HG Podcast

    Without further ado...

About a week ago, HG staffers Elpea & Atzy, along with show guest Cheesewiz (HG Seraph from WICH), recorded the first HG podcast. This was intended to be a test of our capabilities and logistics (how to record from Skype, how to do it when your guests span two hemispheres, etc.), and was never intended to be released. However, after getting a lot of positive feedback and learning a lot of lessons, we were encouraged to release the very first episode.

    Show Outline:

    * What is World in Conflict?
    * What’s going on at World in Conflict Heaven right now
    * Multiplayer in World in Conflict
    * Age of Empires III Mobile - Impressions
    * RTSs on Consoles
    * Halo Wars
    * Age of Empires’ 10th anniversary contest
    * Age of Empires in our lives

You can find the full info at the Heaven Games Blog!

Or listen to it directly here!

We all know who are those pesky little units that keep punching everything in sight, with all those martial arts sound effects from b-movies in the background. We may even know them too well, because they seem to be far too popular on ESO. But are they really OP?

The forummer dejanh has started a thread about this, and the thread grew into a discussion. Check out what some of our members posted:
The thing that is most annoying is while anti cav is supposed to counter them, the chinese player can have 12 or so out before the 6 min mark as well as having a small army+shipment.
Disciples are not Infantry, they are HandInfantry, LightInfantry, Coyoteman. None of the Lancer-type cavalry get a bonus vs. them [...] Ranged Cavalry and Heavy infantry (in melee) get bonus damage against Disciples.
