Bruce Shelley's Blog - July 26th

And yet another update on Bruce Shelley's Blog, but this time posted by Stonewall J! Today he wrote about many diverse subjects, from Halo Wars to the latest Harry Potter book, however I suppose this paragraph is the one which matters the most for the community:
Patch 1.04/1.12: This patch for The Warchiefs and Age of Empires III has been tied off for balance and feature coding. It is now going through hardware testing and localization into languages other than English. Sometime during the week of July 30th we expect to post notes previewing the patch, which we hope to publish a few weeks later. Check out our community site for the latest news.

Not bad, huh? Besides that, he has also got some positive comments about The Asian Dynasties progress. So feel free to check out his blog or make a reply in our forums. And why not have some fun trying to guess the next patch released date?

Cheesewiz has returned to the Age of Empires 3 Heaven team to help us with The Asian Dynasties, news, and moderation.

You can say hello to him again here.

Poll Roundup

Last time on our poll we wondered: "Should Ozarks be included in Standard Maps?"

Here's how you responded...
-Yes. [631 votes]
-No. [110 votes]
-I don't care. [438 votes]
So it seems it could be added to Standard Maps if ES chooses to, but there is further discussion about the map here.

Now we want to know, "When Custom Scenarios are available, how much will you use them?"

If your vote is "Never", that may change after the patch.

Asian Dynasties Gameplay Footage in HD

About two weeks ago at E3, some gameplay footage of The Asian Dynasties was released. Although the general aspects of the video were visible, interesting details weren't visible due to low resolution. Now a HD version of the same video montage has been made available at

Watch the video and join the discussion at our forums in Xastor's thread!

Bruce Shelley's Blog

Brought up to our attenttion by the forumer Maffia, the latest updated on Bruce Shelley's Blog has got quite a few interesting news. Although most is about Halow Wars and E3, he doesn't forget to mention the latest The Asian Dynasties news - including HG's interview with Brian Reynolds - and that the Warchief's Mac version is already available. That plus the Excellence Award won by Age of Empires III Quick Reference and Manual!

You can check out his blog in this link or comment about it in our forums. Also, in case you haven't seem them yet:

Training Time Balance

ultimitsu has just started a fresh and interesting discussion in our General Discussion Forums. As he was wondering what should govern units' train time, he came up with a new idea to make expensive, but under-used units more versatile:
My conclusion is - Res Per Pop

Think about this:
Infantry bench mark is 30 seconds for 100 res per 1 pop.
Cavalry bench mark is 40 seconds for 100 res per 1 pop.
Artillery bench mark is 40 seconds for 100 res per 1 pop.

Want to discuss about the idea, or just about how to make Doppelsoldners useful? So hurry up and post something!

The ESO servers are going to be taken offline for regularly scheduled maintenance on 7/18 at 11:00am GMT (6:00am CST). Server down time is expected to be approximately 2 hours.

Civs Stats for the Past Four Months

Garlef, resident collector of civilization stats, has let us know how civs are doing against each other at various skill levels.

It is only the last four months because it has been four months since 1.03 was released, so all civs have the same balance as they did then.

There is some expected information there, such as Iroquois appearing on top and Germany at the bottom. However, the ottomans seem to be doing pretty well, as do some other civilizations.

Well, to get the full amount of knowledge available to you, simply just see out his full list of stats here.

Shanks13 from Age of Mythology Heaven has picked up The WarChiefs and is here inquiring about stealth: when to use it, why use it, and how often it is used.

Stealth is something that can be deadly when used in the right situation or just annoying at the end of the game. So, Shanks and everyone here want to know your opinion on stealth. Like it? Hate it? Use it a lot? Don't know what it is? Either way, it's an interesting topic of what to do with it.

Post up your opinions here.

An Interview with Brian Reynolds - Part 2

As promised, Part Two of our interview with Brian Reynolds from Big Huge Games has just been released.

This part includes information about hotkeys, the campaign, compatibility, Brian Reynolds himself, and more!
HG: What will the campaign focus on, besides being separate ones for each new civilization?

Brian Reynolds: There will be three five-scenario campaigns, one each for China, Japan, and India. The Chinese campaign focuses on the hypothetical journey of a Ming Treasure Ship to the pre-Columbian New World. The Japanese campaign focuses on the establishment of the Tokugawa Shogunate in the early 17th century. The Indian campaign focuses on the Sepoy Rebellion of the 19th century.
To view all of part two, check it out now, or if you missed part one, view it here.

Enjoy, and discuss all about it here.

The Official Trailer

And the good news just keep pouring in: ES has released the official trailer, a 50 seconds long video with gameplay and cutscenes. While the trailer previously on news was more like pure gameplay footage, the official trailer is full-blown game trailer.

This, and the previous trailer can be discussed at our forums in Legioona's thread at The Asian Dynasties Expansion Discussion forum.

New Screenshots from E3

As if the trailer wasn't news enough for today, 6 new screenshots along with unit renders and other art have been released as well. These screenshots can be found e.g. at GameSpy. An interesting detail in one of the screenshots is a sea treasure with the following description:

A half-finished manuscript bearing El Halcon Sincero's signature entitled, "Better Boat Building and You!" Decreases warship building time by 5 percent.
2xBandit Catamaran

Discuss and analyse these screenshots in Nezahualcoyotl's thread at our forums.

The Asian Dynasties Trailer

The first AoE3:TAD trailer has been released. The video, apparently shown at E3, contains about 30 seconds of actual gameplay footage, featuring all three new civilizations, three new maps and other interesting things.

You can watch this video at GameSpot, or check Legioona's thread with screenshots and join the discussion.

Thanks to Legioona for the heads-up!

The Asian Dynasties Box Art

Ensemble Studios revealed some The Asian Dynasties box art.

To see the picture, visit AgeCommunity, or discuss the cover on our forums.

Poll Roundup

It is that time again, time for a new poll.

Previously we asked you: "What do you think should be changed, if anything, about the current Home City leveling situation?"

Your response was as followed,
-Keep it the way it is. [427 votes]
-Let XP be gained faster per game. [493 votes]
-Remove Home Cities levels all together. [207 votes]
-Have an "auto-upgrade" to a certain level (Level 40-60), then gain XP like normal. [205 votes]
-Other. [120 votes]
Seems evenly spread between keeping it as is or getting XP faster.

Now, since Ozarks has been a map for some time now we want to know if you think it should be included in Standard Maps.

An Interview with Brian Reynolds

We recently caught up with Brian Reynolds of Big Huge Games and asked him a few questions relating to Age of Empires 3: The Asian Dynasties:
HG: Will there be new abilities available to certain units (Asian leaders), and if so what are these new abilities?

Brian Reynolds: The Japanese Daimyo unit is pretty awesome: you have to ship him, or get him from a wonder, but he's like a walking barracks able to train troops right in the field-and even better he can receive home city shipments directly. Imagine shipping Samurai right into the middle of battle. The Daimyo also "buffs" nearby troops. Of course the Shogun unit is even more powerful!
For that and much more, view the first part of the interview or discuss the new information.

Garlef's 1.04 Summary of ES's Comments

Forumer Garlef has posted a summary of each post from an Ensemble Studio's employee at AgeSanctuary's 1.04 thread.

There is quite a few hints about what is coming in 1.04:
Cossaks will more than likely see a boost too.
1.04 Sioux = FUN.
Does any else think spies bonus verses minor natives is too much?
British to me seem very underrated in the community.
For that and many more comments on 1.04, visit Garlef's thread.

VOD: __Sephiroth__ vs PeopleoftheSun

Finally, after a long time of waiting, xSephirothx posted a new VOD! In this game he plays as Britain against PeopleoftheSun's Spain in the frozen Great Lakes map. If your internet is capable of downloading twenty-four minutes of VOD, then do it, because it's a great game!
GG, was a good watch - Qazitory
Nice VOD, a lot of chat in this game - Stonewall J
Zomg, Sephie tries to hide the fact he lames iros nowadays - George_III

Want to find out the result? Then download the VOD or, if you prefer, discuss it in our forums!

GameFAQs' Poll!

Brought to our attention by Robert_Squared, today's GameFAQs' Poll of the Day might really interest you. It contains a very simple question and offers seven options:
Age of Empires
Command & Conquer
Rise of Nations
Total Annihilation
Total War

The question should be pretty obvious now: What's your all-time favorite real-time strategy game series?

Already know your answer? Then click here and add your vote to the count! Or discuss the poll in our General Discussions Forum.

Hint: go for Age of Empires

Release Date?

gunner1 found a possible release date for Age of Empires III: The Asian Dynasties at

It states there that the release date will be September 30th, 2007. We are not sure if that is 100% correct, but we do know that the release date will be in the Fall of 2007 and that fits the bill. So hopefully we can be playing The Asian Dynasties to start off October.

Feel free to discuss the release date and anticipate the coming of TAD!
