Trick or Treat?

Happy Halloween on behalf of the AoE3H staff! Traditionally this has been the time of true horror on our forums and this year is not an exception... Be sure to check it out, but don't be scared, the horror won't last forever.

That is, of course, if I don't grow too fond of it :)

Home City Leveling Changes

Leveling up home cities in ESO will go through drastic changes, as the level of new home cities depend on the currently highest home city level. That means, if you have one high level home city, you don't have to level up your other home cities as much anymore. Here's the way it'll work:

Highest HC LevelNewly Created HC Level
0-1910
20-3920
40-5940
60-7960
80-9980
100+100

This applies to European and Native American HCs only. For Asians, one Asian home city will have to be leveled up in order to create other high level Asian home cities.

Read more about this on AgeCommunity and for discussion, LordBob13 created a thread about it on our forums.

Lord Tahattus's Flag Add-on!

Lord Tahattus, known for his fancy threads and tutorials, has released a new version of his Flag Add-on, so now it includes The Asian Dynasties flags as well! His mod will increase the quality of all flags in game, being compatible with both expansion packs. Check out some of its features:
All revolutionary, native and asian flags redone to fit the style of vanilla flags.
Design of flags remain untouched.
Much better than latest version!
Compatible with ESO.

Feel free to discuss it in our Modding Discussions Forum. Or if you wish you can just download it right away!

AoE3 Heaven Hiring

Ever wanted to have a possibility to join the Age of Empires III Heaven staff? Now it may be your chance, as there is a staff opening and we're searching for an avid fan of the game volunteering to fill it.

The tasks would include writing news articles and content for the site, such as formatting strategy articles. We're specifically looking for the following things in applicants:

  • -Good writing skills
  • -Knowledge of basic HTML
  • -Fluency in English
  • -Knowing the AoE3 community well

For the application, the applicant should provide an example of a webpage he/she has created and a short (100-150 words) example of a news post. Don't be scared about the requirements: the webpage doesn't need to be anything spectacular, a basic example of well laid out text and images is fine. Just a little something to demonstrate your skills. The topic of the example news post is free as long as it's related to AoE3: it can be an already newsed item written in own words or a completely new one. If you want, you can also have your news post presented on your webpage example. In your application, please include a short description about yourself too, with some basic information.

If you got interested, please submit your application to me at qazitory at heavengames dot com.

Goodbye Stonewall

Age of Empires III Heaven Seraph Stonewall has had to resign from his position due to being busy at college and other real life things. I'd like to thank him on behalf of the whole AoE3H staff for his efforts here, they will not be forgotten and he truly left big shoes to fill!

You can tell him your goodbyes and thank him in his thread in Saloon.

TAD Updates!

No guys, I'm not talking about patches. I'm talking about some TAD related stuff going on, all done by our very own forummers!

First there's the new version of MNBob's Card List, which now includes a full list of Asian cards! A very useful tool for those who still haven't got the chance to play the new expansion pack, but already want to plan some strategies. Also, his Unit Chart has been updated as well, now easier to browse through as it doesn't displays campaign units anymore. Feel free to discuss all the new cards in our forums!

And our forummer Ossian, who's already playing The Asian Dynasties, is now answering questions about the Y-pack! Still haven't bought the game and want to know something? Or you've bought it and now want to share your knowledge? Then this is the right thread for you!

Official Heavengames Review of Age of Empires III: The Asian Dynasties!

The review discusses the new features, maps, campaign, multiplayer aspects, and even the graphics and sounds you can expect from the expansion.

The Asian Dynasties Shipping to Stores

The long awaited day is now here, the release date of The Asian Dynasties expansion. Microsoft Gaming Studios announced today that the expansion pack has begun shipping to retail stores in North America. The press release can be found here at AgeCommunity website.

For most stores inthe United States, the game will be available tomorrow on 24th, Canada will have it out on October 30th. Other parts of the world still have to wait a while, for instance in Europe the release date is 2nd of November.

War of the Triple Alliance Goes Beta!

And the very expected War of the Triple Alliance mod, currently being developed by Lord Tahattus, has released a Beta version!

The WOTTA mod represents the bloodiest conflict ever occurred in South America - the war between the Triple Alliance and Paraguay. It adds the new Latin American culture and features at this moment four unique civilizations: Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay and Colombia.

Besides whole new civilizations and tons of units it still proposes to add new formations, herdables, leaders, maps, politicians, a new soundtrack and even an immigration system:
Instead of mercenaries, each country has access to 3 different groups of immigrants. When shipped, they'll come as a Covered Wagon and you'll be able to play as that tiny nation!
You may read about all the new features at our Modding Discussions Forum. Not everything is completed because the full version is not ready yet, but it is still worth a try! And if you just can't wait, feel free to download it right now!

MrMilo Joins ES

MrMilo has recently joined the ES team. You may recognize him as the one who made the WCG final game so much more enjoyable to watch by providing a great commentary or as one of the winners of the Warriors Path Tournament who was invited to ES to test The WarChiefs.

Welcome him or discuss his addition to ES in this thread.

Poll roundup

It's time for a poll change again. In our recent poll we asked:

"What civilization will you play when you get The Asian Dynasties?"

And here's how you answered:

China [1353 votes]
India [1369 votes]
Japan [1928 votes]
Native American Civilization [282 votes]
European Civilization [734 votes]
I am not getting TAD [407 votes]

It seems the Japanese civilization is a favourite by far, with China and India being almost equally popular. A substantial part of players are going to stick with European civilizations, whereas the Native civs don't get as much support.

This time we're asking:

"What's the first thing you'll do once you have TAD?"

Blogs Updated!

New entries have been added to both Bruce Shelley's Blog and The Asian Dynasties' Blog!

Bruce Shelley's Blog has been updated with some new information and comments on WCG, including a reference to AoE3H and the VOD posted here of the game between iamgrunt and Parfait. You can check the game here, by the way. He also talks about Greg Street, Lead Designer on Age of Empires III, and the notes he made about the game at a conference in Seattle tied to the WCG.

The Asian Dynasties' Blog got it's final update, in which John Hawkins talks about a major concern in the gaming community: balance. He mentions the latest changes that have been made in TAD, as well the biggest balance issues and how the BHG team solved them.

You may discuss all that in Eicho's thread at our General Discussions Forum.

HeavenGames' Staff System: A Revamp

Source: The HG Blog

So now that things have been settled with HG's identity, it's time to go on to the fun stuff: the staff system! Woo!

It's been discussed in a previous blog post that HeavenGames doesn't operate as efficiently as it could from a staff perspective. A lot of issues have already been dealt with in the past several months, but there are two substantial problems that must be taken care of. First, there is no effective way to ensure quality and consistency of work across all of our sites. Second, we do not have dedicated jobs in a number of support capacities, including marketing, sales, and the like.

Revamped Staff System
The owners have thus discussed the issue with the HeavenGames staff and have come up with the following system:

As you can see, HeavenGames will still be run fundamentally the same: the Exco - chaired by the CEO - makes all of the network-wide administrative decisions and Seraphs work under the Exco as site administrators. What will be added to the system will be a Seraph Liaison and Support Departments. First, the Seraph Liaison... (Read more!)

Ender_Ward's Take on the Asian Civilizations

Forumer Ender_Ward, known for his skill at AOE3 and TWC, has posted a thread in General Discussions containing his thoughts on how the new Asian civilizations will fair versus the Europeans. Ender focuses on how the cannon is the primary European advantage, and estimates the ability of the Asians to counter both Heavy and Light infantry. For those not as interested in TAD, he also gives his thoughts on what he believes is the Ottoman's greatest asset.

Here is a quick excerpt:

I realized that cannons are the genuine European advantage. A unit that counters both LI and HI, while getting hard countered by neither of them. If your civ only has Cavalry, then you have tremendous trouble against LI paired with powerful HI, because one needs inhuman micro to be able to match the efficiency of a cannon, which just fires and deals full damage to both unit types.

This is on top of the reality that cavalry gets countered by powerful HI very, very well and only get 10-30% ranged resistance against ranged fire and need to get into melee. Cannons on the other hand sit 26-28 range units away and have 75% resistance to ranged fire.
One can clearly see how much of an incredible advantage Cannons provide in actual gameplay (an even bigger one against civs without Culverins).

If you're interested in what Ender has to say, or if you want to debate him on his opinions be sure to check out his thread.
