Now this is just a thought, but....

Isn't it right that you go threw four ages in each game? Well, I doubt one person can live for about 350 years. Maybe let units have children, age, and die after a while. Don't make it as accurate....but different villies would have different attributes.

Children....Fast, but can't fight
Young Adults....Strong, but not as experienced
Adults....Experienced in battle, but not as strong
Elderly....Scholarly, but slow and weak

Any thoughts and/or comments?

EDIT: Maybe different skins every once in a while for villies, Not everyone looks the same you know.

I'm sorry, but I don't want to play the Sims, so I'll have to disagree that it's a good idea.

What I'm talking about is just people going through life stages, you wouldn't have to tend to them. Their varied attributes would be kind of cool, I think anyway.

Elderly, scholarly? How does that work?

I don't know....Maybe bitter and resiliant?

Most older people I know are pretty intelligent from their life experiences.

Yeah, i know, but if they kids are fast, the young adults are strong and the adults are experienced, how will being smart affect the gameplay?

Interesting idea, but as Elpea says, it does not belong in Ao3.

Are you talking about villagers only going through this aging process or are you talking about every human unit in the game? I can see how villagers aging would look kind of cool but I'll be damned if I'm going to spend my hard earned resources rebuilding my army because they keep getting old and dieing on me from natural causes. Plus it just would not work well with the game I don't think if only the villagers got old and not the military units. Yeah, if I wanted to see units get old then I would play the Sims or perhaps Tropico...the people age in Tropico don't they?

My List:

Childs........ Fast, but they just watch stupid TV shows like Barney and play games like AoE3

Young Adults....... Strong, but they just want sex, hard music and drugs

Adult Man...... Sluggish, fat and angry...They just watch TV and read porn magazines; the adults can fight but only if they have a gun.

Old Man...... Slow and weak; the old men are bad fighters, but are intelligent.

Little Girls (Childs)...... They are sociable and have a fine language.

Young Girls...... They listen to idiot music like Britney Spears and Ashlee Simpson (except the rock girls, but they are expensive)

Woman...... They are not strong, but can kill men in seconds with their natural hate. Can run faster and scream at 120 Db. Powerful against male units

Old Woman..... They are damaged by the menopause but intelligent... slow and weak.

Wh***....... Not intelligent but have a big libido. Make your soldiers and male villagers happy

There's Screenshots? Anyway....Ok Ok, maybe aging isn't a good idea. But different skins for villagers and different types, I think, is still a good idea.

I agree, also, this would be like doing the role-play aspect of R:TW, but with every unit in the game.

So in conclusion, this is about as likely to be in the game as having the villagers "make babies".

I think time in the game would move too quickly for that anyway.

Ah, that reminds me of good ol' aoe, when by the game's time, a catapult stone took 5 years to get to its target. That's kinda lengthy, but you must admit, they've made a pretty damn powerful catapult if it can hurl it like that

let me think this over

if you start out with children

a child tries hunting a bull singlehandedly....

a child cuts down a tree, but bcause of his inexperience, he makes it fall on himself

and later

an old man having to single-handedly build a wonder

an old man that has to hunt a lion... but u kno wat happens

No offense but I think that idea is very unpractical. When people get old do they die or do they remain forever old? Also if they die than that means you must constantly watch your population because if you dont your whole civ will die out. Also if they were to do this to scale with the rest of the game it would destroy it. You would have a few minutes of time with a unit making it utterly useless. Considering the soldiers come out trained that means they are probably middle aged if not later. People did not live that long back then so you would have somewhere around a minute or less worth of time meaning even if you were to immediately send your units at enemy from creation they would have a couple seconds at max depending on map size to fight, thus eliminating any sort of organized combat or strategy and making the game unplayable.

Even if you did it with just villigers or made it so peple aged slowly it would still severly limit gameplay. Booming srategies would suffer and turtling would loose all effect: you build up only to wait for your entire population to die out. Also I have noticed in all the other age games along with other rts games that there are periods in which people build up more villagers than others; perticularly in the early ages. If that is the case then probably somewhere around third or fourth age players would experience massive population drops or else the entire cultures would turn into florida (a big retirement home).

The idea is cool but in this type of game it seems very unpractical to me. If the realism bothers you then you should think of it this way: when you make a villager he does not represent one man but the beginning of the family. As he gets older (though you do not see any of this) he has a child and that child takes over his place in society and the cycle continues until one is killed yet they are all represented by the same villager.

I my self do not like the idea, but the whole thing in its self is quite funny...I can already see a story published kinda like the one on the zone a few years back about the guy mining stone and the monk converts him by talking him into changing cloths...Was a funny story.

The texture variations would be cool though....I don't mean actual age variations but skin tone and hair color between each unit. If ES is using a simular setup like in AoM with anim files then it could very well be possible.

Quoted from jakes_button:

but I'll be damned if I'm going to spend my hard earned resources rebuilding my army because they keep getting old and dieing on me from natural causes.

I can't help but laugh at that possible situation.

Lets put it this way.

Would you like to leave your army for a second, then come back and find it swarming with children? Then leave it for another second, and find your army is just a gang of elderly people and small kids?

Since this tread is called "Aging", I think animals also fit here.
On the bison-screenshot, there are elder and younger ones. Will there bison-babies be born and older ones die, or are they just eye-candy that not changes?
