i was wondering if infantry will be made in squads or battalions of if they were going to be made individually. i was also wondering if they will have formation such as a line of riflemen crouching and and standing line behind them like in history

I like single unit systems, and I assume it will be that way for AoEIII.

i think that indivudual units should be kept, but the problem with individual units is that it becomes more of a skirmish game, kind of WC3 like. It give a lot of freedom but takes away all the tactics that are characteristic of the time. You cant flank unless you have a formation, it would basicly boil down to counters.

Okey, I don't really care if it's AoEesque to use single units (like pretty much all early RTS games), however, it would be very strange to use individual units as the main type of units for the time period which is used. The obvious solution is of course to use the same system as Cossacks, where you create individual units, but can (with an officer and a drummer) create formation of some size (Cossacks supported several sizes, and allowed them to be returned to individual units (and forced them to if a great part of the formation was destroyed)).

Thats cool but I guess they will be made fat and can be combined since in the screens they are always in defierent formations.

The so-called "RON method" is nothign about forming formations as about balancing infantry versus vehicles and such. It's only sensible if you're not using variable population costs - varying the cost is much better, like in Starcraft/Warcraft III
