I play a lot of CS and I wasn't sure how many other people who like age of empires also like steam games. I decided to make an AoEIII themed one using a concept art picture and "i love steam".

I'm not sure if this is an appropriate topic for these forums but I think it's better than the boring default steam skin and wanted to share it with the age community. If it's not appropriate mods do what you will with this topic.

You can download it from here:

AoEIII.zip

If anybody does download it all you have to do is un-zip it and put it in this folder C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\skins. Then go to settings in steam and select interface and then AoEIII skin. Hit Ok and exit and come back in steam. It should work.

Cheers

You can get Steam to play AoE?

October 25th: 298th day of the year, coincidence, conspiracy? You Decide.

I am still waiting for Name change to Armed Rebel.

No. This is just a skin for Steam (Steam is for counter-strike, hl etc.). Steam has nothing to do with AoE and never will. Thanks Elpea for the link on the news page.

Nice job. Looks better than the khaki-green muck that's there normally, anyway.

I've personally had no problems with it and it's been very efficient at downloading those large patches, quicker than they'd normally be over 56k. Single-player CS: Source was particularly appreciated.

Yea, Steam works fine for me, specially since I don't play any of those games often, when I do go on though, it checks for all the updates and makes my games are running on the latest and bug-free versions, I give it thumbs up.

Yup, those chaps at valve do a good job of ironing out bugs as often as possible, not many games does it as well as they do. It has its flaws but itís definitely helping fraud which I hate a lot.

Steam is a program that lets you play all the valve games. Like half life, half life 2, opposing force, counter strike, counter strike source, condition zero, day of defeat, deathmatch classic, team fortress classic and hl2 deathmatch.

^I had to reformat so not all games are there.

I did, it really is that simple.

*click Download
*Un-zip the files
*tick the box that says show the extracted files
*Select the folder named AoEIII
*Copy it or drag it to: C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\skins
*Start up steam
*Go to settings
*select the interface tab
*Click the drop down that says "Select the skin you wish steam to use"
*Select the one called "AoEIII"
*Click OK
*close steam
*next time you start steam the new skin will be working

I just realised that when zipping the file it has added an extra folder. Make sure that the folder you move into your steam skins folder is the one inside the first folder. That's the best I can do as far as inforing you how to install it.

There's no such thing as 'a steam', just as there's no such thing as 'an age of empires'. Steam is Valve's own distribution program and is lambasted by many and praised by many.
