Pottinger: There are actually five ages this time.
Fargo: Oh?

Street: We have this fifth age that's kind of the game-ender age. It's really really expensive to get to, but once you've reached it, the bonuses you get there are just really incredible. So if you ever get into those stalemate games, where you can't quite budge it, someone can just go to the fifth age and that usually ends the stalemate.

That is from the new gamespy article..

I'm glad the've included a 5th age but to tell ya the truth, I'm nervous about it. When I read it, I immediately imagined RON's last age, the "Information age" or "Post information age" where these expensive, but godly researches are done, I always hated playing until then because of that and it was boring. I don't like how they said "the bonuses there are just incredible", will it be a "rush to the 5th age" now? First one there wins...

Any ES words to quell my fears..?

The 5th age actually isn't a problem; if anything, folks don't get there enough right now Anyhow, it's cool.

True. Though now I'm doing it just because you guys keep making a big deal about it

The funny thing is that it really is "soon". Well, "soonish" maybe.

In Rise of Nations they also tried to cope with the "4th age problem"... in which both players would reach a stalemate having every tech researched and being super rich. The 5th Age is a great solution to this problem with very powerful techs. In RoN, one of the techs for example, would make every unit be created instantly, another would double your huge resource income... and so on.

Well Dave, you see AoE3 everyday in your office, you see the great graphics and physics in movement and get to drool over it as much as you want

IMO we need new alternatives for the word "soon"... you know, it keep it interesting ^_^

"How will this affect DM?"

Duncan McKissick, one of our artists, is fine, actually. I don't think the 5th age has adversely affected him in any way. But, I'll pass along your concern

I'm guessing this will be like the "Titan Age" or inspired by RoN.

Probably, but I have to admit, the latest interview was a huge step for AoE III so far. So much in-depth info. Perhaps ES intends to answer questions in strides - start with questions which deal with theories, broad topics, and well-known features; then slowly move onto the more specific questions.

Perhaps you should have it that when you reach the 5th age you can only pick one or two of the super-techs or whatever, so that if two people reach 5th age, they wouldn't be fighting with the same super-stuff at the end.

for DM, lighting ETC

Just alter the Cost of Advancement for theese Modes or only allow people to advance after X amount of time has passed, like the Delayed GP system in AOM when deathmatch was choosen.

I personally would love to see Multi-aged deathmatch battles insted of everyone alwies being in the last age.

Of course I'm avoiding the question. We're not ready to talk about DM yet.
