I don't know if you guys noticed this, but The Colony says it has system requirements based on info ES developers gave at E3

Seems pretty good to me...

I'll put it on our site when it's absolutely confirmed, We shouldn't really spread these things and then have people be pissed when it's not confirmed.

*learned lesson on GDC vid*.

As is said on the site, that's just our best guess based on what several ES employees have said. By no means is it set in stone -- it's just something to go by until we get something more definite.

You should make it bold and pink mate, from experience people will ignore as many warning signs as they can and then blame you later.

*newsied*.

Apart from the RAM, those sound fairly realistic.
Windows XP needs 256mb to get off the ground, and if you try to play games on 256 you will be playing incredibly slowly.
I would say 256mb as the absolute minimum, possibly closer to 384 (the mid-point between 256 and 512).

I agree, RAM should be at least 256.

Those are *not* the sys reqs (and no I'm not saying whether they're higher or lower). Whatever ES folks said that were probably a bit imbibed from the previous night or something

So, as minimun, the RAM is 128mb or 256mb?

Considering that most observations put this game in the same league as HL2 and Doom3, I don't think that those specs are going to play the game well.

RAM has to be at least 512 and that video card would stink.

The current crop of video cards generally end up CPU limited, unless you build an uber system. And even then the card may still be CPU limited.

min req is just the minimum you need to play the game at a crappy detail level with tons of slowdowns, the min req for AOE3 are gonna be the same they are for every other game released at the same timke period, but what they put on the box has very little relation to what it will take to actually play the game smoothly.

I am guessing that if you got 1 gig of ram and a 128mb video card ( a good brand, like Nvidia) then you are fine in that category. Of course you need a decent processor too.

a x700 with 64 mb will do it also.

Hmm...

If ES knows these are not them, then ES must have finalized (or come a lot closer to finalizing) the system requirements, whereas they said they had no idea before...

when looking at a video card dont jsut think that having 128 megs of video RAM will mean you can paly the game the core speed, RAM speed, and number of pipelines all determine how fast the card runs jsut as much as how much RAM it has (also you have to consider whether it supports the latest DirectX functionality and shader levels). Id suggest just looking at benchmarks of different cards if your trying to find a card thats good for AOE3, since real world performance tells you alot more then any of the number you find on a box.

I'm 110% sure I can't play AoE3 with my current comp that I got from 1998 .

Looking at AoE3, in order to play it smoothly, I'd need to spend around $1,000 US on a new comp, and that's just way too much money to spend just for a computer game -- yes, yes, AoE3 is looking pretty good, but I'm skeptical if it's good enough to justify buying a brand new system for it alone.

$500 is more than enough for an Athlon 64 system with 512MB-1GB RAM and a half-decent graphics card.
