I'm under the impression that Native American tribes will have at least one unique unit. These units are generally what the tribe were best known for, example:
Iroquois= Tomahawks
Nootka= Whale hunters with bladed paddles
Sioux= Riders

It's been specualated that the other tribes will be Apache, Algonquins, Mayans, Incas and Seminole. I was wondering if anyone knows what these tribes were best known for and what do you think their unique unit/units will be?

With Tomahawk-armed natives I hope there is a research/upgrade thing for them. They should be initially armed with the wood or bone clubs and other native weapons, but when you ally with them, you should be able to upgrade them so that they use tomahawks - because after all it was the Europeans that introduced the axes to them.

You know the native americans don't just have one unique unit- they're a whole bloody seperate civ to all the europeans, meanning all their units are unique.

Yes but I mean unique from other Native American tribes, I reckon the Native Americans will share some common units.

What do you think the Natives will do when you ally with them? Will they help in battles? Lend resources? Tell you about secret locations that will give you an edge in a battle?
Most importantly, will you get to smoke a peace pipe

To the poster above. The natives had axes before the europeans came. Moreover it is a fact that axes as such were made before the advent of metallurgy everyplace in the world. The metal axe was just an evolution of axes made of stone or bone.

As to the unique ness of the natives they will probably be the same deal as the Europeans shareing some basic units like spearmen or archer's and having some combination of unique units along with an bonus for producing more/better of the shared units.

Surely if you choose you can attack the natives and never ally with them. Their is probably nothing to stop you from doing that. But I would take a hint from history the colonizer's who did not listen to the natives all failed in the long run. One of the morals of the Thanksgiving holliday is listening to the natives.

In a class of peruvian history some time ago I heard that incas used otorongos (jaguars) brought from the Amazonas jungle against the spanish war dogs... could this be a unique unit for the incas??

You can actually get more then more unique unti per indian civ. For instance the Iroquays also have a battering ram like unit as well as the tomahawks.

Actually, leopards seem to have a special liking for dog meat, and jaguars are very closely related to leopards, so...

Don't think so; I'm pretty sure "dog soldiers" were uniquely a Cheyenne warrior elite - but they would make a fine UU if Cheyenne are in the game.
