Hey all, perhaps this seems like a stupid thread but I thought that there should be some kind of authoritative abbreviation guide. Much of the info has just been taken from the AoE3 Heaven pages. Some of them I have not seen used often or even before but I'm just posting all that comes to mind. Post additions and ill edit them in.
***Note to newbies: Read this before you knock yourself out posting. You'll want to know these things. It will help tremendously if you've played any other Age of _____ games.
Ao3, AoE3, AoEIII: All acronyms for the game, Age of Empires III. HC: Home City. Refers to the persistent city, or element of the game which will support your expansion in the new world by providing various assets to conquer your opponents. BXP , EXP, XP: Battle XP. Refers to the experience your soldiers gain in battle by fighting. Battle XP enhances your Home City by providing upgrades of some kind. UU: Refers to a civilisations unique unit. A unique unit is a unit that no other civilisation can get. i.e., the Janissary is unique to the Ottomans in the sense that only the Ottomans can build Janissarys. NA: Native American tribe. In Age of Empires III, you can secure the allegiance of native tribes by building Outposts attached to their camps. Once you have done this, you can train new units unique to the tribe you have allied with. Native American units do not count towards the population cap, though there is still a limit on how many units you can train per camp. OP: Outpost. Outposts are neutral buildings, located on the trade roads/railways of the map. The player can gain control of an outpost by building a Trading Post on it. Every time a trade unit passes a Trading Post, experience or a resource chosen by the player are generated for the player. Rax: Barracks. Often used generally to refer to a military production facility, such as an Archery Range in AoK or a longhouse on AoM. CW: Covered Wagon. believed to be used to found new Town Centers, buildings which spawn villager type units central to your economy. TC: Town Center. See description above. MP: Manufacturing Plant or Multiplayer. It is unknown which will become common practice to use as it really isn't known how important the manufacturing plant is. A multiplayer game is a game played with multiple human players, either over the internet or a Local Area Network [LAN] of some kind. The exact function of the Manufacturing Plant is unknown at this time. It possibly researches either advanced upgrades, or upgrades to Artillery. T Co: Trading Company. The New World trading company, present in each nation's capital, researches Home City upgrades to your economy, and orders shipments of settlers ("buckets") to your colony. MA: Military Academy. The Military Academy researches Home City upgrades to improve your military, and allows you to order shipments of soldiers ("buckets") to reinforce your colony in the New World.Capturing four outposts invokes the "four of a kind" victory condition, starting a timer countdown to victory.
TP: Trading Post. Trading Posts are structures built to control either a Native American camp or an Outpost, in order to secure their benefits for the player.***Note on ages: If you want a more in depth description of these ages including actual history, the original info is at http://aoe3.heavengames.com/aoe3/gameinfo/ages/. DA or A1: Discovery Age. The first age of AoE3, players start with a Town Center, several colonists and an Explorer. The Explorer, who replaces the scout from previous games in the Age of Empires series, is an unkillable unit which has the special ability of sniping environmental hazards. It has been suggested that the Discovery Age is one of the most important eras for the discovery and eventual interaction with the native cultures and trading posts evident in AoE III. CA or A2: Colonial Age. In AoE3, the Colonial Age has been suggested as a key period in which players actively interact with their Home Cities, and may attempt to attack or limit the growth of an enemy civilization. FA or A3: Fortress Age. The Fortress Age in AoE3 allows for the continuation of developments made in the Colonial and Discovery Ages. By the time a player reaches the Fortress Age, military improvements and economic improvements exponentially increase. While it has been suggested most players do not spend a great amount of time in the Fortress Age, it is a heavily important age as most battles seem to occur during this age. IA or A4: Industrial Age. In AoE3, the Industrial Age sees the growth and peak of militaristic and economic developments. By this period in the game, most players tend to have many outposts and must be easily capable of producing large armies of militaristic units. Although most battles seem to be considerably smaller in this age than in previous ages, the technological advancements gained by some players may help decide who wins and who looses. ImpA or A5: Imperial Age. The Imperial Age in AoE3 is a crucial era in determining who wins and who looses a game. Considered the breaker of a long, stalemated game, the Imperial Age is expensive, though, highly desirable. While information is scarce about this era within the game, it can be assumed that it will contain extremeley powerful upgrades and powerful units.
