The specs list 3 CDs, not 3 DVDs.

Most modenr games require a DVD drive.

I have haven't seen one game in years 2000+ that haven't been released on CD, many people don't even have DVD drives, DVD I have seen few game released on, games of big file size are usually put on DVD for faster install, so Age of Empires 3 will probably be released on both.

I haven't seen a single RTS game yet released on DVD. Not even Empires had a DVD, but took up 2 CDs.

Giving the buyer an option between the DVD and CD version can cause a lot of confusion and a lot of unhappy customers. Most buyers won't think twice whether they have a DVD or CD ROM drive, and will grab the first box that says "Age of Empires III". Imagine their frustration if they only have a CD player and they accidently picked the DVD version!!

There would have to be BIG signs on each box that say "CD VERSION" and "DVD VERSION"! It just doesn't flow right for efficient marketing purposes.

Retail AOE3 will not require a DVD drive. Some earlier builds that we handed out did.

Most likely it's DVD in Europe and CD in USA.

Well, if the game's gonna be 3 gigs, and not on DVD, just how many CDs will it take up?

It says on the box 3 CDs. In AOM the second disk was only used for installing the game, you couldn't use it to play on.

With age3, the second and thrird disks may only be needed to complete installation of the game.

The Collector's Edition has five disks: three CDs for the game, one music soundtrack CD and the 'Making of' DVD.

Ugh, CDs... I was hoping at least the collectors editions was on DVD, which is what I planned to get...

Well in europe almost all new games are on DVD so hopefully we get a DVD version.

Why should the whole world spend $5 more in packaging? The few people who still don't have DVD readers --standard equipment on all Dells and Gateways since 2000 --have such old computers the game won't run for them anyways.

Here's a DVD-R for just $23.99 from newegg, the TOSHIBA Beige 16X DVD-ROM 52X CD-R 32X CD-RW 52X CD-ROM 2M Cache IDE Combo Drive - OEM:

This is the top recommendation from the July Value Computer guide:

If you can't afford this DVD drive, you also can't afford a computer, or internet access, or a $50 game or much of anything. Go babysit someone's kids for one evening and you'll be able to buy it.

Most likely it's DVD in Europe and CD in USA.

That's ... weird... if not complete nonsense... Why DVD in Europe and CD in the US?

Don't ask me ask the companies who make the games.

cuz the US is slow to adopt technological advances, unlike Europe and Asia. they are at least 2+ years ahead of us. it sad, but true.

It is true, except in broadband, where the average speed is only 512kbit
