A very timely article, hopefully it will reduce the amount of Home City handwringing that's been going on lately.

It has some cool details about customizatiosn too.

Thanks for the link. I noted a couple errors, though. They said max level was 100 (it's 106) and that you could handicap HCs down in MP games (pretty sure you no longer can).

Release date Nov. 1?

I was pretty sure it was Oct. 25...

I wrote that text several weeks ago, so some things have changed.

For example, Miranda is level 50 something now. But she let me down tonight versus a Portuguese city with a whole bunch of Merc cards. I've been having more fun lately with my double Factory Ottoman city anyway.

It's taking you an awfully long time to level up. Something different about the version you have, or are my games just too long

This is where it's at

Quote:

Players create and name their Home City when they start their first game of Age of Empires. After they name their City, they'll create an Explorer, and decide which civilization they'll be playing as.

So first you create a city, then you name it, and then you choose your civ?
1) Can you say how your city should look like? If so, wouldn't it be more logical if you had first to choose a civ. (Because I think an Ottoman town is very different than a British one).
Or do they mean with 'creating' just 'naming' your homecity?
2) About the explorer-creating. Is this also just 'naming', or can you give your explorer a unique look (selecting face, clothes...)?
Thanks

You name your HC first and you get to make it look different as you level up.

So you can't say how your city should look like (dock there, factory there, church here...) but
1) every city-plan looks the same, just different building-styles?
2) each civ has his own 'home city'-plan?
3) every city-plan is random?

I really hope we can "customize" our explorer to some extent. I've heard we can name him, but giving him (or her?!?) different looks and maybe a single stat bonus os some sort (+5 attack or +50 hp, for example) would be a nice little touch.

Looking forward to AoE3 - big population cap > AoM
