I notice when I play the hard computer in skirmish, it creams me in resourcing food. I got the demo last night and it took me several games just to understand what the cards meant, how they worked, the trade routes and all that jazz and now I'm finally getting a rythym going and started playing the computer on hard. It took me three or four games to beat it, though, because it kept hitting me before I was ready (Playing as British vs the Spanish) and I was not used to that as I'd been learning vs the easy and moderate. Well, in the game I just won, it out resourced me by 7k food. That's insane so I figure I must be way off on my build. Can someone explain a good econ start in regards to getting my food up? Thanks.

send your explorer out to a bunch of waypoints while your vills gather your crates, pump a vill and then go immediately to hunting. keep pumping vills and sending them to food/wood as you need it. get the 2 vills HC card as soon as you can and just keep pumping vills and making sure everyone is collecting. get a market early and research hunting dogs and gang saw and gold eventually. just make sure to try to keep up with resource techs. home city cards have a few good cards with resource bonus's -- get them.

Hmm...for British having a lot of settlers on wood is good if you want to do a hard boom, make sure to build houses when you can for that free villager, with team fast house build you get your economic reinforcements at an insane pase. But then I haven't had any trouble at all with the Brits because my captian explorer and early towers can usually make up for my late advance times.
