honestly there are advantages to farming besides the unlimited food or rebuildable food benifits that are currently expressed.

it seems to be the case that AOE, from what i remember, set farming as the slowest means of gathering food( not including waiting for herd animals to fatten) although farming does take a while, the advantage is the return you get for the time...

instead of it just being the standered drop off amount of 15 per a load, or 1 unit every few secounds as AOE3 does i think there should be even though a long wait time in comparrison to other means of gathering food, but a big return in terms of units of food recieved from farming as opposed from hunting/herding/foreging

You haven't played the demo have you?

Well in the demo the villies don't drop off the rescourses. They just work continuously day and night.

And the farms in AOE3 have an unlimited food source.

lets say you get 1 unit of food from an animal every 30 secounds... farms should give... lets say 10 units of food every 60 secounds.

if youve taken anthropology classes or anything lilke that you will lern about how a man can "support" himself food wise for a few years just from one season of farming

well this is a game that takes its "qeues" from history, anthropology is the history of humans as a species, i think that the facts about farming would be an appealing thing to add into the game

Farming's real advantage is that your settlers are easier to protect. You're hunters are way out in the open (and the AI, as I'm sure human opponents will, raid my hunters constantly).

The best way to do it is with sheep. Its slow and expect alot of idle villagers, but you can have an ungodly amount of food from just a few sheep.

Is it a good investment to buy sheep or just stop using them once you've exhausted all of the sheep you find on the map?

Farming is about as fast as most other food sources (other than sheep), but mills cost 400 or 200 wood, depending on which shipments you have. They're good for the long term, but a bad idea early on.

I havn't really tried sheep pens, but I've heard that sheep are the fastest food source by far; maybe I'll do some tests tonight.

Every time I invest in sheep I regret it later. Sheep suck, at least they move faster than in AoM.

I would buy a mill instead of a livestock pen every single time. If sheep cost 50 food then maybe they worth it.

no the sheep are worth it, u just have to be careful how u use em since if done wrong u can kill urself by going sheep (and im only talking about late game, early game I am still not sure)

As long as hunting is as plentiful as it is now, you won't be needing mills for a longer time. Mills are rightfully slow - less micro, less food.
Livestock are like crates, I just never bother with building a livestock pen since I wouldn't really build more sheep. The ones found are well enough for quick food boosts.

Are you kidding? Sheep have a MUCH bigger LOS in this game than they did in AoM. I can get Spanish-like exploration with only two sheep at my disposal (just shift click a bunch of times).
