With regards to water maps (especially island maps), how are trade routes going to work? I mean, oyu can't ahve trains going across water

good point. mybe they dont put them in island maps or mybe they dont have island maps beacuz theirs no islands in the middle america.

Well in another post, there is mention of all the random map types and one of htem was the Carribean, which I presume means islands, so the question remains, thanks for your thoughts though. This could also be a problem with a map like the Great Lakes, as most routes seem to be linear in the demo, and they owuld have to cut through the lakes.

the only real problem comes on island maps, and i'd quess on these maps there are no traderoutes.

Maybe you still have your explorer, but oyu also have a caravel or something to get him about, and native allies, on their own islands???

theres only one islands maps, so i dont think ES would have gone to alot of trouble to make it work much differently, so they probably just choose to leave trade posts out instead of overcomplicating stuff.

But trade routes have become a pretty big part of AOEIII, so to leave them out would be odd, I mean most battles which occur, occur around them.

Well the most logical method would be for them to stick in a number of small islands that had trade ports on them which you either gained control of by moving your explorer too or by having been the last person near it. Then you can have a trade fleet come past every now and then.
