Or you could just be polite and say "Please check out the Technical Thread for non-nerds"

Anyways, if you have an AGP interface, go with the Geforce 6800. If you have PCI-e, go with the Geforce 6600GT. Both are under $200 and possibly $175 if I'm thinking straight. Both cards will grant you great performance and graphics as long as the rest of your specs are at least decent too.

Chill mate, that was uncalled for. Anyway, AwesomeBilly, I suggest you check the stickied threads at the top as they contain great information about the sort of hardware needed to run the game.

don't buy a card now. Ati and Nvidia are releasing a whole new line of cards in a month. Otherwise just get a 6800 le at newegg for $130 that will unlock to near 6800 ultra performance. You can find this information everywhere

not really. in a month the cards will be replaced. (but companies will have to lower prices to get rid of old stock). personally I would wait of a 7600gt or a midrange x1800

Prices are always dropping. I paid $220 for a GF 6800 two months ago, they're about $180 now.

Do you have an AGP slot or PCI-express? I'm guessing AGP if you have a Geforce 4 in it now.

Lol I'm sure you can't mod a 6800le to a 6800ultra, you need to have the regular 6800 to do that, not the le.

Yes I have a AGP. Does the PCI-e = any pci slot. or a certain one? How can I look to see what mother board I have?

ATI and Nvidia are having a major WAR!

We, as consumers are benefiting form this. They are releasing cards at breakneck speeds. The card you buy will almost imediately be replaced with a newer, better card. This means prices are constantly droping if you are willing to go with any of the midrange cards.

But you also have to consider what you use your computer for. Do you use it for gaming mostly? Do you do video editing?

I will probably go with an ATI Radeon X800XL. I think I saw those for about $250 back in March.

And don't forget to upgrad your RAM as well.

My current system is:
Sony Vaio
Pentium 4 w/ 3.2 GHz
512 MB RAM
ATI Radeon 9800

Anyways, Can my mother board run a PSI-e? or do I need a speical motherboard type? I was thinking ATI Radeon X800XL pci-e 512 mb

yes you can. they use the exact same core, just that nvidia disabled 8 of the pixel pipelines and lowered the clocks. of course you won't be able to match the ram speeds of the 6800ultra as you would be limited by DDR1 mem but the pixel pipelines are very easy to unlock and the chip will likely overclock to near ultra speeds.

Why are people asking this question? Have you ppl ever heard of "switching from AGP to PCIx?"

AwesomeBilly: PCI-express is a different type of slot; it's not compatable with PCI. ATI cards can't do the HDR / pixel shading that Ao3 uses, so you won't get the Bloom effects. I'd recommend a GeForce 6600 AGP; Newegg has them for $115 or so:

eVGA: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814130232
Rosewill: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814164043
XFX: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814150086

If you don't want to spend that much, you won't get the Bloom effect, but you can still get decent performance with some lesser cards.

WHAT :O !!! ATI's won't do the shading :O !!! That's horrible , totally horrible.

I built a system last month with an Asus Extreme AX700 PCI-E 128MB card in it, and it won't cut it :O :'(

And I scored a system with a ATI Radeon 9250 (which is overclocked to something like 9800) for $500 last night, and it won't cut it either ...

O.k., I'm crying now :'(

The X700 should do OK, minus bloom, with modest settings. The 9250 is going to be for plodding 1v1 single player only.

Uh huh ... and that sucks

Hmmmmm ... I could move my graphic cards around (shift each one down one machine) and get a higher end one for my newly built sys ... Works for me.

Then I'll have 3 systems that can run Stronghold 2 Cool.

ok So I should buy the AGP ( yes I have AGP slot ) As far as I remember its like AGP x 8 speed or something like that..when they guy sold me the mobo he said Something about 4x and 8x.. and I got the 8x. or something.. Its been about a year.

So I should get the AGP 6600. Is that the 6600 ultra or super or something? 6600 is about $115? Will that run on the full potential as it can on my current setup?
