IMO..

I think the whole Bloom Effect thing doesn't look that great ( a pic of it has been posted in a thread here)it
looks a little too bright, and as other has posted also somewhat unrealistic looking.

I'm not goint to tell you what you should buy since I haven't used a nvida lately.

But I have recently bought the Radeon X850XT Platinum Edition and it does support HD gaming. I believe this began with the X800 series and later cards,

Any how I got mine for $333.00 new in box @ EBay when it's listed at Ati for $499.00 = great savings

So you might want to try there.

I warned you... my mind has a mind of it's own !

http://www.pricewatch.com/prc.aspx?i=37&a=13757look at thes 256 mb, for $220. its 6800 GT 256mb

Although, I still need to find out what my motherboard is.

Anyways on pricewatch.com they have motherboard and CPU combos. Which do you think I should get? Is this any good?

http://www.pricewatch.com/prc.aspx?i=306&a=5744 this is:
755A-2

Retail Box mboard - AGP 8X - DDR - 6 Chan Aud - Serial ATA - USB 2.0 - 5 PCI - 10/100 Lan with cpu - AMD Athlon 64 3400 - Includes Fan / Heatsink - Complete Combo Kit

A rough hierarchy:

6800GT > 6800 > X800GT > 6600Gt > X700__

Not all of those are available in AGP form, or only in limited numbers.

Basically, the 6800 is a 12 pipe card, with DDR, and the 6600GT it 8 pipe with GDDR3.

The 6800GT has the faster GDDR3 memory, and is close to $300 dollars.

So the 6800 looks to be the best AGP 8X performer at your price point.

s CHILD pad....=schildpad...Calling people noobs..idiots...and telling people to shut up makes me want to give you a good shake....stop acting like an ass...I've enjoyed more comments on this issue because not everyone is so up to date on cards. It would take someone a while to break the comparisons all down so it's good to hear what people have to say because ..well...more info on the matter helps....anyways stop your childish tantrums and name calling....almost every thread you post in includes some insult or bs.....a hope a mod sends you a warnng...I'm tired of your bs

Ok, Question: on www.pricewatch.comI can buy the G-f 6800 gt for $220. With this it states that I need "An AGP 2.0 (or higher) compliant motherboard." How can I found out if I have this?

PS: how can I find out my motherboard?? I totally forget.. I do know its a MSI motherboard. but forget the specs.

MSI Gigabyte GA-7VT600 Alright, So... I believe http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.cfm?articleID=1597is my motherboard. it looks like it. Do I need to get a new motherboard anytime soon? Right now I have a overclocked

'AthlonXP 1.93 gigahertz
'AMD Athlon XP
'128 kilobyte primary memory cache
'512 kilobyte secondary memory cache

Is it even worth the $109 dollars to upgrade to a

AthlonXp 3200
333mhz 2.163 ghz (higher if overclocked)
512 kilobyte cache

so it appears that I'm almost maxed out on my CPU as far as my motherboard socket 'A' can handle. or am I ok with a 1.9 ghz.

How about you guys List your motherboard/CPU combo and price. Please tell me how it runs too.

As of right now I'm going with G-f 6600gt Video Card. ( this supports the bloom right?

I would upgrade, the 3200's a decent very low range CPU, if you could afford the AMD Athlon 64 FX57, a Nvidia 7800GTX or wait for one of the next gen cards, 2 Gig ram, A Socket 939 AMD motherboard with PCI Express, A huge hard drive, you'd be pretty much sorted, but most ppl dont have that money... I would wait for a new next gen card, but realistically it won't matter, I am told even a low range Geforce FX 5... something will get it too work but on less intensive settings than the high end cards, really if you look at it, the graphics of AOE3 are similar to AOM's, but with blooms, better enviroment, water effects, building details, etc. The ingame units nearly look as bad as the AOM units, but comparatively the units look much better than the AOM units. Just my 50 Cent.

Ouch, Thoes would hurt my pocket pretty bad. Whats the next step lower? something cheaper? Maybe I'll stick with 8x AGP. although I know 16x pci-e is better.. gf-6800gt 256mb from pricewatch is rather cheap.

I just got a GForce 6600 GT 128MB, which has improved several of my games no end (especially Empire Earth 2). I'd moved up from a 5200 FX.

The demo won't install for me due to the fact I run an Athlon Thunderbird 1.4, which does not have hyperthreading/SSI. I have a 2.4GHz Athlon something or other next to me (which should be fine) but I can't find any heat-sync paste =/

Oh well. I can't wait for AoEIII, either way. My machine will run it fine I should think, as it runs EE2 and Imperial Glory top end, and some other stuff. Roll on Oct. 25th

Oh yeah, and I'm back. Not been on the forums in like half a year or sommin'.

A lot older, though no wiser.

"Prices are always dropping. I paid $220 for a GF 6800 two months ago, they're about $180 now."

where do you shop? I see them for like 328$ or so. I want a link to a 6800gt for 180$ not used or some lame junk chainlink brand.

which one of these video cards should i get
256MB PCI Express™ x16 (DVI/VGA/TV-out) nVidia GeForce 6800
or
256MB PCI Express™ x16 (DVI/VGA/TV-out) ATI Radeon™ X850 XT PE

i think the second one is better but i heard aoe3 runs better on the first one.
