First, as we know longbow men and crossbowmen are sorta the same unit, and the longbow men also whips out Pikemen. The most intriguing thing though, is that with the melee combat thing, while an army of crossbowmen might be beaten by a longbow army, an army of cross and pikes will whoop the longbow men. You see longbow men stink at melee attack, if you close the gap and convert there attack to melee, whala, you know have lowered there attack by 8/13th, your crossbowmen can now whoop them.
Second, just a little trick that I have learned. You know how we use to lure boars in aok, well aoe3 when you hunt make sure you bring your first villager to the outside of the hunting herd. This will force them back in towards your town center and reduce walk time of new villagers. Saving you valuable seconds
Third, just a little pop time if you are rushing. When you order your shipment of pikes make sure you only have 1 spot left, the pikes can still be shipped and u will cap ur pop. Of course, this really is not that useful because you will need a house a second later, but still.
Fourth, remember villagers can go for treasures; sometime this can really help you out at the start, since your explorer can start on others. Only do it though if your villies are going to a herd of deer right next to the treasure, it isn’t worth it to have him walk far. Also, of course this is only for unguarded treasures
Fifth, have your dog kill the guardians/ scout while your explorer gets the treasures. This seems to be the optimal way.
Sixth, in my Spanish rush strat post early I had said to take five villies and put them on hunting right away. I have changed my mind on that; let all your villies work on the crates because otherwise your first villager is produced to slow. Afterwards do the same BO.
The seventh one is for ES, on the New England Map there is a screw with the hunting. At times the hunting can be quite a ways away from your base, this along will mean who wins and who looses in the upper levels. There should always be at least 1 herd either in your LOS, or just outside of it.
The eighth is also for ES, I do not know but maybe make it so the treasures do not appear as they now do when you are exploring. I mean if you get fairly close to them sure, but right now I just have to run my scout within a 5-mile radius and they appear. Bring that trigger for auto explore in a little so that it takes more skill to find the treasures.
