I've spent the last few weeks doing some upgrades to the computer, all in anticipation of this game's release. For those interested, I'm running a Gateway 820GM, 3.0Ghz Pentium IV. I bought it in February, but now I've tweaked the machine for optimum playing with the BFG GeForce 7800 GT OC, an extra 512mb RAM bringing the total to 1.5gigs, and I bought a nice Altec Lansing sound system.
The first time I played the demo, I was disappointed because I knew my computer could do better, but my video card was a little trooper who couldn't get all the bells and whistles in. I had stock speakers which merely relayed the sound instead of bringing it to life. The game never lagged, but I figured with the extra load of the 7800, more was needed.
Now when I play, I'm immersed. The mink whales make me just sit and stare as they stream belly-up through the water and the sun reflects off them. I'm always scrolling when I literally feel the boom of cannon in the distance (I hope the people living below me don't get mad). The unit deaths are magnificent. I played the game on hard for the first time today (thank you for the poll) and really stepped it up. Fifteen imperial field guns. So, um, I'm excited. One month, eh? I rolled them into the enemy's "base" and let loose. The boom of the cannons, the sound of the people screaming, glass breaking. Seeing the buildings splinter, shred, and explode. Feeling them explode. And watching those villagers fight back
