Highs: Engrossing story; great graphics; RPG flourishes like home cities and XP.
Lows: Still a traditional RTS at its heart; multiplayer and skirmish modes lack adventure.
"The devil and the priest can't exist if one goes away, its just like the battle of the sun and moon, night and day. The force of the devil is what we are told to fear. Watch out for religion when he gets too near." "Living in a world of fantasy, I can hide behind what's real." "Behind a smile, there's danger and a promise to be told, you'll never get old. Life's fantasy, to be locked away and still to think you're free! So live for today, tomorrow never comes. Die young."

Nearly impossible to have adventure with fairness, whatever is up to chance isn't up to skill.
And It is good that it is traditional RTS it would be hard to learn a totally different genere of gameplay.

I think this is another reviewer that didn't take time to learn the game, especially multiplayer. AOE3 has the most varied set of strategies I've seen so far in an RTS. The thing that throws people off is that it's still possible to play it like you play AOE2 and do well against the computers, so you think it's the same game. Try that online vs experienced players though and it's GG.
Yeah, I don't agree with "still a traditional RTS" being a low. That's a high point, that ES could create such a beautiful looking game while still maintaining AoE's traditional RTS roots.

Nonetheless, it still gave it a rating of 91% which is fantastic. Better than I expected. I wouldn't complain too much. But yes, PC Gamer has the "highs" and "lows" swapped from what they should be.
