1. Microing is managing your units in battle so that they can be used most effectively. For example, one would try to get their pikemen/halberdiers to attack cavalry or ruyters to attack the enemy artillery/cavalry. The goal is to get the units attacking the units they are good against and keep them away from units they do poorly against.
2. It depends greatly on what your civ is and what sort of strategy you are going for, but the 3 villager and 4 villager cards are usually a good investment.
