I just got the Expansion, and I played some single-player with the Sioux...The Bow Riders in Colonial, though expensive, are an excellent unit, mainly because they don't get an attack reduction against villagers. Rifle Riders are the best things since sliced bread and they get really good Age-up bonuses (one gives 12 buffalo and increases the gathering rate for hunters).

Yeah, It's true that the Sioux can't take a dose of their own medicine...Raiding can absolutely kill them. Not only that, but a lot of their "elite" units are extremely expensive...so, trying to mass Rifle Riders early on in the game is very difficult (especially if you have a low leveled HC).

I was doing great with Sioux until I matched up with an Iroquois who went off on the travios dance and spammed warhuts everywhere. Then, as I sat pinned in a corner, I realized how bad the Sioux really are when it comes to siege. War clubs are weak, to say the least. Dog soldiers can't be massed until age 4 and not quickly then. Sioux get no rams or huron mantlet cards that I can see. It really is a hassle dealing with warhuts covering each other, boosted in HP by card, and protected by an army.

There's a Dog Soldier dance (hotkey b on the firepit).

It sounds like the solution is walls and upgraded warhut/nobels huts. I had 2 sets of walls and a bunch of huts protecting my base, and it took 2 sioux players a while to get inside. On the other hand I was able to walk right up to the sioux villagers without resistance.

yeah... walls are a problem for the sioux... they can't build them themself, and in early game, its takes too long to break through them with clubs...
Also, in early game you don't want to switch your dance from gathering bonus too much otherwise you'll fall behind in crucial resources needed to feed the expensive sioux cav
