I'm starting to wonder if decreased cavalry train time would be another possible solution to the colonial light infantry problem.

Infantry uses the "30 s musketeer scale" for training.
Cavalry uses the "40 s hussar scale" for training.

Scaled train times were introduced into the game in AOE patch 1.06. This happened before the final patches that made colonial fighting more prevalent compared to the previously dominant FF strategies.

Right now the cost and train time make it very difficult to train the necessary amount of cavalry to properly counter colonial light infantry. In totality, the number of anti-cavalry measures in the game is pretty high -- many anti-cav units, tower and TC damage bonuses, increased train time, increased cost.

Would decreased train times be enough to help with the current situation?
axe rider 30s
cossack 26
hussar 30
kanya 28
uhlan 26
all other heavy cav remain the same

As long as cuir training time remained longer ...

I think that reducing cav training times would help cease the infantry spamming, but not to much as that could make cav late game a pain in the ***.

The best way to go about solving infantry spamming would be to give all melee cav a bonus against infantry, proportional to cost. So a hussar would get 1.25x, cossack 1.1x or 1.15x, ect. Maybe even 1.5x? That way people would actually run their infantry from melee cav, not continue attacking it.

cav would become OP with that

they are penalized this way because one cav man equals two infantrymen

I disagree. Cav does not have a problem killing light infantry. Cav does have a problem getting to light infantry.

If ES does nothing to the current unit classifications, assigning damage bonuses to cavalry will not happen because it would require individual bonuses vs every single unit. In that case the only other possibility is the much talked about decimal penalty for the fka light infantry units.

Hard to say. With all of the other restrictions on cavalry I'm not sure anyone can make a blanket OP call without some testing.

Taking 2 pop is not a bonus, it's another penalty that cav have.
