Topic Subject:Can someone please explain to me rate of fire?

I am very confused with these recent patches. The in-game animation gives practically ALL ranged infantry, including abus guns and grenadiers, a rate of fire of one shot every three seconds. I assumed that every time they fired a bullet or arrow they did their damage, which was once every three seconds. Now people are talking about cavalry archers having a ROF of 1.5, but their animation is only an arrow every three seconds. Also, to be sure, I tested cavalry archers firing at stationary melee units and found that they only damage the enemy every 3 seconds (with each arrow) and that no arrow does double damage.
Now this weird rate of fire thing is extended to lots of units like cassadores, trying to "balance" the game. but I only see enemy units damaged when my units actually fire, and the damage never seems to be doubled. Am I missing something?

Put a longbow vs another unit that won't kill it, the first show when he "aims" is 3 seconds, after he has his target he fires 1.5 seconds, sadly there are a lot of things that make him go back to the "aiming" as of yet I still think they do so at random o.O

I dunno what game you're playing, or you if cant see the animations, but after "setup time" as ossian explained, bow units should constantly fire every 1.5 seconds, and every gunpowder unit at 3.0. Only exception is cassadores which fire at 4.5.

I always though ROF was range of fire, i.e. how far they could shoot.

I'll really have to check on this, did longbows always fire at a rate of 1.5? because rate of fire is NOT CHANGEABLE IN PATCHES BECAUSE THE ANIMATION WOULD HAVE TON CHANGE.

Most Bow units tend to have less efficient ROF's becuase of the messed up re-aiming, that could be why the ROF is seeming like 3. But I'm pretty sure this is in the proto file.

Yes, but when did we talk about changing longbows rate of fire? Changing the rof of cassas is easy because ES put an extra 1.5 seconds in. It is hard to make it longer, but easy to make it shorter.

Technicaly: RoF means Rate of Fire. eg. most automatic weapons have RoF around 800 RPM (Rounds Per Minute). If it was in Rounds Per Seconds, it could be called frequency (f).
So what we are speaking about here is not rate of fire, but Period of Fire (T). T=1/f
So we (and probubly ES too) use this in twisted meaning, but as long as its understood it is not problem.

Quoted from The Crazy Idiot:

You may not find it releveant, simply put, however, it directly relates to his style of writing, which is immediately noticeable. Thus and so, one could say it is relevant and, at the very least, moreover, merely a friendly inquiry. Either way, thank you very much for the clarification, daddy. At least some people around here have an education...

is this discussion about relevancy or rate of fire?
anyway I didn't know that ES would make cassadores shove the bullet down longer. I just didn't think they would bother to change animations. They all look the same as in vanilla.

Let's imagine a handsome guy called James, the Cassador. His rate of fire is 3. So, he shoots every 3 seconds. However, in his animation file, it's set that he damages 0.60 seconds after attacking. So, in a battle, he would damage the enemy at 0.6s, 3.6s, 6.6s and so on
The ROF is the distance, in seconds, from one attack to another.
The ROF is the distance, in seconds, from one attack to another.
Good definition, really. It's easily comprehensible, but accurate as well.

ES can really change anything they want in a patch, all they'd have to do would be to re-update the unit's animation file and/or include a new model.
By fortunately for them, the wouldn't even have to do that. The Granny2 Modeler (the $13,000 U.S. dollar program that has more greif for the modding comunity than anything else so far) has this built-in feature tht lets the model of the unit automatically update itself to fit ith a unit's ROF (minus the half second or so delay mentioned above, which I think is intentional).
If this sounds too unbelievable, compare the Mediocre Bombrd cheat unit with the Great Bombard unit. Both have the same animaion file and use exactly he same models, but the former's reloading animation is much, much quicker, because of it's much smaller ROF.
