Hi Guys,
The background:
I have setup my C drive as read only, meaning nothing can be written into it, works like a charm, absolute virus free.
The problem:
Aoe3's save folder is C:\Documents and Settings\Me\My Documents\My Games, and it is in C drive, I want to make it go to F drive, where I have setup this folder.
I have a couple questions - how do you add new programs?
What about other programs that re-write info on the C drive?

youll have to reinstall and tell the game to install it where u have set up your new folder. dont worry u wont loose your stuff just move the stuff to a halfway folder till u install then move it in.

1, I can disable write only anytime I want.
2, all my programs are installed on another drive, their either write to the other drive, or write into my document dolfer, which i want to setup in another drive, such as aoe3.

you dont understand the question, it is not the install folder i have trouble with, it is the save game folder which is in my documents.
It's been a while, but I think in an XML file, is a path descriptor of where such data goes, and you need only change the mapped drive letter there, and move or duplicate the structure onto that drive. I don't remember having to do it for TWC, so maybe it carried over from the AOE3 installation.

I dont think it is possible. I know in agecommunity tech support have been people who wanted it, due to issues with windows media center, and i believe it wasnt possible.
Cant you just make my games map write enabled? If the windows register would be read only a virus cant do anything, but i dont know if that is the case for you. If it isnt a virus can still work from D drive. And i think that if it would be read only, that you get more error messages then you can start programs.
btw in general it looks like overkill to me. A good virusscanner also does it.

Ulti, I made a new drive F: and installed AoE on it at the same directory as it was before (on C:\). The directory was changed to F: if I booted aoe3 from F: and it was on C: if I booted aoe3 from C:.

Georege - it is not aoe3 that i have trouble with, it is "my games" folder.
furby - virus scanner works like a doctor - can be good can be bad and can be expensive, read-only system drive is like invincibility, which means it is much better
Pop your aoe3 CD when on F drive, and choose c:\program files\microsoft games\age of empires III\ as the install directory. It will install normally but your my games folder will be on F:\documents and settings\me\My games.
This will only be true if you load the game from C:\ when you are booted in F:\ drive. If you boot the game from C:\ while booted on C:\ your my games directory will be in C:\. It depends on which drive you boot the game from.
