1. Trade travois/stagecoaches/trains are neutral and always run. Whenever they pass a trade post, that player gets XP or resources. In a team game, it is possible to have each trade post site occupied by a different player.
2. Trade Posts on Trade Routes generate XP or resources. Trade Posts at Native Villages allow you to research natives techs and train Native Units.
3. Just build a Trade Post on a trade route and you will get XP every time the Travois passes. In the Colonial Age, you can upgrade it to a Stagecoach for 200 wood, 200 coin. In the Industrial Age, you can upgrade to a Locomotive for 300 wood, 400 coin. (I think). Note that these upgrades are for the entire route, so any Enemy Trade Posts will get the upgrades too. Stagecoaches and Locomotives give you the option to get resources instead of XP.
