Their anti-cavalry capabilities.
A Qiang Pikeman costs 60 resources (wood) and deals 24 damage to cavalry.
A regular Pikeman costs 80 resources (40f, 40w) and deals 40 damage to cavalry.
In villager seconds, their cost is actually very close. Their damage? Isn't remotely close.
Keshiks then? A whopping 8 x 3 damage to cavalry (24). Rate of fire is "real" 1.5 because they don't actually have an aiming time (wow, it took another game company to make an archer without the annoying aim time, congrats ES, you've been served). That is still, however, utterly pathetic damage.
So you might say, OK, the damage is so low because the cost is so low (115 food). And that would've been fine and all, but these things have practicallyno HP. At 100HP a pop, these things die before you can even blink!
It takes until Fortress to get a half way decent anti-cavalry unit (Changdao) with 31.2 damage against cavalry for a very reasonable 95 food.
But what are you supposed to do if you can't get to Fortress? In heavy Colonial fighting, China is currently screwed against civs with real cavalry.
So you tell me folks, how are you getting around the anti-cav issue. 'Cause it's starting to get on my nerves. It's the Ottomans all over again, only this time instead of Abus Guns, I'm having a hell of a time protecting ChuKoNu and Flamethrowers.
