So ive been playing china for a while now. I found them to be a fun civ to play, yet very frustrating at times. I guess its addictive to me. I thought i would let you all now how i feel about china and what i think should be fixed, please feel free to contradict me if im wrong, id love to hear how to do better.
Pros
Eco- No silly villager wood cost and you get a resource factory in age 2 (wonder). Late game export has a lot of opportunity- Russian factories, german trickles and french crates.
Flame throwers- yes.
Early to mid game- The banner with crossbows and pikes is the perfect age 2 defense army.
Disciples- disciples are reasons 4-97 in pros. they are amazing. I have a feeling the next patched they will get nerfed, and no china boost will occur. They are a little too tough early game, but late game they are fun!
Cons
Banner Armies- Its a clever thought, but the truth is they arent perfect by any stretch. If you want to make cheap batch armies, make them spammable like russia. Having 220 pop space is cool, but i find it hard to keep that many units on the field, with the SLOW build time. All the opponent has to do is send a army of 3-4 unit types (any well rounded army) and some artillery at you late game, and you have a building/microing nightmare. I really want banner armies to be cool, but they are just a disadvantage because every other civs can build units with 100% accuracy.
Anti-cav- Two pikeman and neither seem hang late game with heavy cav. And the biggest problem with the chinese musketeer is that he doesnt exist. And the cav archer? thats it? no musketeer and they give you a cav ARCHER? its worthless. thanks for playing, China.
The wonders that produce banner armies and flying crows- WAY TOO SLOW.
Redundant units- Pikeman and pikeman- they both kill cav and thats it, so why do i need two types? Hammers and Flails- they both kill li and artillery, why do i need two? "o but one has a range of like 5!" when have you ever wished your hand cav can strike inconsequentially farther? And steppes? its like an oprinic that isnt that good at sieging... or raiding. Cheap units arent effective if you can mass them (build real fast).
Upgrades for banner armies- why would you upgrade one but not the other unit in the banner army? whats worse, spending 1500 for the imperial upgrade on a unit you dont want to build or not upgrading one of the units in the banner and building it anyway for the unit you do want, and the unupgraded one is useless? either way money is wasted. its a cute idea, but it just reminds me of how i wish i could build units inefficiently.
So thats all i got for now. Let me know what you think. I like playing china but im starting to feel that im not doing myself any favors by playing a disadvantaged civ. So let me know what you think, or if you have any pointers or remedies that can help me with these problems.
