Some of the above names you may recognise, others you may not. All are responsible for the extensive array of RM's (Random Maps) AoE3 has to offer.
As a map designer, I find people constantly invite me to games where I have to play a map I have coded, and awkwardly pretend I'm enjoying it. It has it's highs though. I'm much less likely to get kicked for my low rank than the next guy, since so many are intrigued to make an RM. People are friendly and hospitable to you, regardless of your rank, occasionally they ask to join your clan, it's a desirable lifestyle.

Here's what I'm getting at. This 'fame' is so obtainable, all you have to do is get a
Editing RM's isn't the same as applying mods, since it doesn't prevent you from accessing ESO or anything.
