Yes, that is a tough one.
I also seem to have the same problem usually when I attack the enemy’s base.
Micro requires you to react very fast, so speed does matter a lot here.
It’s a good idea to set your army in different control groups depending on the unit type.
Pikemen always forward, skirmishers behind them and in the middle cannons (protected).
Melee cavalry should be to the side ready to attack enemy cannons from behind.
Each one of these unit groups should be assigned to a different control group for fast access.
Focus fire can make a big difference too.
You want to kill each enemy unit in one shot using the minimum number of your units.
It is a waste to micro 20 units to shoot one enemy unit when you can kill it with just 8 units.
But micro is not the only important thing here.
Reinforcements are equally important.
When you attack the enemy’s base he can reinforce his army very fast so he can still win despite the fact that your army is bigger.
That is why forward base is important as well as reduced training time.
You have to reinforce your army as fast as your opponent does or even faster than him.
