There was another thread with some fairly off-the-wall posting about playing on the "Florida" map, which apparently is another name for the Bayou Map, that got me thinking. That terrain on the map would be very similar to the terrain that you would find in what is now Bangladesh, but which was for a very long time, like up to 1947, was part of India's Bengal province. Therefore, putting the Indian civilization on that would be perfectly reasonable. although the animals and natives would be different. Given the limited amount of solid ground on that map, any of the Asian civilizations would have difficulties because of the requirement to build a wonder prior to advancement for an age. Has anyone played either with or against one of the new Asian civilizations on the Bayou map? I know that I find that one difficult for a European power to find enough ground to build on.
Secondly, since I play against the computer, I got a surprise the other night when I was playing Dutch against two allied computer opponents on the Caribbean map. The surprise was that one of the opponents was the Asian Indians allied with the Sioux. Has anyone else that plays against the computer encountered one or more of the Asian civilizations on a non-Asian map?
Finally, going back to the requirement for the Asian powers to build Wonders to advance. Both Japan and India appear to be overpowered, at least from the economic standpoint, as that is the main area that I concentrate on in playing. I was wondering if you might be able to somewhat neutralize that by careful map choice. The Yucatan and Patagonia both have restricted land areas, with Patagonia having the large inland lake in non-free-for-all games. The Rockies puts your starting position on that limited area plateau. I suspect that the Ceylon map, with the small starting island would be major problems for both the Indians and the Japanese. Maps that I would think would be good to avoid with them would be all land maps, such as Mongolia, Great Plains, and Texas. Any comments on this would be appreciated.
