Hi guys. I'm too old and time is precious so I thought I'd just ask my questions
You know those economic upgrades? Are they cumulative? How about the military ones? Same thing?
When playing a native civ, is there any particular build order that's best? I'm thinking of the dancers. When should you and how many should you put on the peon build rate?
The painted desert map. Wow, do I ever get my ass handed to me on this one! One computer opponent on the highest difficulty results in me vainly trying to defend my wall against hordes of infantry, cavalry and yes, natives. It's FUN as can be but, got any tips?? Which civ might be best, and against which one?
This one is particularly funny. I tried as the turks and got some 10+ towers up but they just whittled me apart and I end up out of peons, out of resources, out of luck! hahaha

The economic and military upgrades both work the same way. They are additive. 1 + 0.1 + 0.25 = 1.35 or a 35% bonus.

I am definitely not an expert on the native civilizations, but for my style of play I have found that 10 dancers do what I want to have done without feeling that I am overdoing it.

The Painted Desert Map is one of my least favorite one for that reason. The AI opponent is located close to you, no trade route to gain experience points, and it the games that I have played, the hunt animals were not all that close to my town center. The best solution that I have come up with is based on the opponent not being able to move through the Apache and Navajo villages. Then blocking the direct line from the AI town center to mine with walls backed by towers. That slows the attackers down enough so that I can kill them with firepower. Use whatever mesas are between you and the AI as well.

You cannot be too old since you are playing the game, although I would agree that time is precious. At 57, I become more and more aware of how precious it is with every birthday.
Nail to the mast her holy flag, Set every threadbare sail, And give her to the god of storms, The lightning and the gale!

The Economic upgrades are based on the base value, so it doesn't matter what order you send the cards in if you were implying that.

For most native civs the build order is much like a European one, save the fire pit and dancers for later on, say ten minutes into the game. Putting some villagers on fertility dance will help your economy expand, but when war time comes, shift a whole bunch of your villagers over to the fire pit temporarily for the battle, to gain the largest military advantage possible, for if you win the big battle you can win the game.

It all depends on your play style really. It seems that you like to play defensively, so the Portugese, Dutch, or French would be of good use to you. Remember, walls and towers cannot repel an actual military; you'l need units.
Theres a lot of debate around the best civ, I'll let others get to that one

Once again, Units>buildings in this game (as opposed to AoK). Spend those villager seconds that would be on wood on food and coin instead, to produce an army. Towers should be used to protect villagers and cover blind sides mostly.
The Economic upgrades are based on the base value, so it doesn't matter what order you send the cards in if you were implying that.
the order in which you send them doesn't matter either way :/

What cookie was trying to base is that the eco/mil upgrade go off the base value. Take wood gather rates for example. 0.5/s.. per vil. It's actually 0.5+0.5*0.1+0.5*0.2 for a 10% and 20% upgrade. Same goes for any other upgrade.
Painted Desert? I love that map. Here's a hint though. Expert AI gets a 50% handicap. You need to rush them, and take advantage of their weakness before they can outboom you.
Unit > Buildings. By far. If you're looking to turtle, you need units more than you need buildings.
Need a quick way to get laid? Chaplain gives you results. "Screw me if I'm wrong, but haven't we met?" "Damn girl, you have more curves than a race track." "Oh, I'm sorry, I thought that name tag was in Braille." "If I were you, I would have sex with me." 3 reasons I am the sexxyest forumer:Raiding Cav... - China Merc... - Aztecian coloni... <-- howzat?

Yea Ganzzer, what's wrong with an older person playing the game? I'm 62 and owe/play the whole Age of series.
And a friend of mine, now 58 was the one who turned me on to the game. I also have a friend, 51, who loves to watch me play custom scenarios.

And the implication of that would be that I have a similar exponential advantage in experience, knowledge and possibly the enjoyment of the game.
