Well, not really, but sort of.
You see, I play only one civ, the Dutch. It's not as though I only know one strat or anything, but they are the only civ I have found that is easy for me; I know a weird civ for that to be true. Obviously, then, there are a few matchups where I know that 9 or 10 (sometimes 6 or 7) minutes down the road, I will see the words 'you have abandoned your colony,' accompanied by melancholy singing.
Four of these such matchups are not too uncommon, but I also have trouble with a fifth civ that is quite odd for a Dutchie to struggle against:
Germans, Russians, Aztecs, India, and...Brits
Just a note on why I suck vs. Brits: it's not always that I lose to a brit, it's that when Ido win, it's because of my opponent's mistake, not my skill. When a good brit player masses in age 2 (huss/lb/pike), and attacks once I hit age 3, there's not much I can do about it, and going with anything more than a 10 skirm (5 huss is sorta a bad idea vs. Brits) semi - FF feels like a waste, since Brits are supposedly easy to FF against.
Now.
I'm playing in a tourney in the next few weeks (on GR), and when I get matched up with any of those first four, or a good brit player (there are 2-3 that are in this tourney on GR), the entire game is a struggle for me. If I get a civ that is NOT one of those four, it's relatively easy for me to win, unless I'm against a few players that beat me out of pure skill (Hastings, Mr. Love, Never Summer, and I can't beat Dust or Paladin either, for those of you on the mac side).
So, my question is, what is civ that is relatively simple that I can learn quickly that at least stands a fighting chance vs. those first four civs, preferably one that someone who is accustomed to FF's, turtles, and semi - FF's would like.
Also, what is effective vs. the Brits as Dutch? I know it's supposed to be an easy matchup, I just don't see why, or what to do to take advantage of that. The rest of the matchups I have covered
Thanks,
