I am playing Japanese, but I found I have hard time defending early cavalry shipment rush. The opponent usually manages to rush his cavalry into my base around 4:30, but I usually advance to colonial age around 5:00. So when my opponent's cavalry comes, I have no unit to defend. Then the opponent's infantry comes, I almost have no time to react to the attack. I play Great Plain mostly, I found that circling the walls is especially hard in this map, the wall can't be built on the trade route of the trade post.

The free minuteman can usually kill any early rush . Send villagers to town that will shoot down 1 cavalry easily. Then minuteman will take down the rest .
