notice how only the 'white' colonies benefited from British rule.
with regards to America, cities like Boston had lower taxes than London & a higher standard of living.
the reason why taxes were increased was to pay for the costs of stationing troops to protect the colonies.
the reasons why the British lost the war are numerous:
the distance from Britain to the colonies was 3500miles- which meant it took weeks to send troops & supplies- orders were out of date when recieved.
the British armies were neary always far too small to be effective, they could not simultaneously take control of towns & at the same time take the fight to the enemy. it was either one or the other.
the British had many incompetent Generals who were only there due to their background rather than their capabilities.
the British were never able to win the hearts & minds of the colonists- only some loyalists.
the Americans made good use of propaganda to help promote their side- which further alienated the British from the colonists.
the Americans made good use of guerrila tactics- which meant that they could inflict damage on British transport & lines of communication.
the Americans were being supplied & funded by the French- which enabled them to carry on the fight.
the Americans could call on from many reserves, usually hunters & farmers to help bolster their numbers.
Britain was also at War with France, Spain & Holland which further hampered its ability to project its power to the North American colonies.
towards the end of the War the French also supported the Americans militarily- which proved decisive.
