Infantry does seem to be the best option, unless you were sent to fight in formations...then I think I would rather be part of the cavalry.

i have a history class right now, on this time period, ottomans seem like they were pretty dominant, i would choose to be a janissary, it was there best unit, oh yeah, they wernt really slaves, they were basically chritian children who converted after they took over a land. they wernt by force. this doesnt mean im a muslim though.

Also, in many armies bandsmen were given the duties of ferrying the wounded back to the surgeons, which obviously entailed going under enemy fire.

ok... archers are no longer popular in the period but since they are in aoe3 i'd be a longbowman, i practise archery so i know the technique already, cavalry archer would be even better

Skirmisher - all the cleverest infantry became skirmishers because the could operate with a degree of independance instead of standing in a line and firing a musket to numbers while an officer shouted the timing.
