Hi,
We were already trying to find some testers before (here), but the feedback (especially the number of forms filled out) was quite low. So, to get some more testing done - we will give out 100EUR (about 120$) to a randomly selected tester.

Who can participate?
Everyone with a copy of AoE3 (demo or retail) who already played a few games against the default AI.

What do you need to do?

  • Download PsychoAI from the here.
  • Install PsychoAI
  • Play against PsychoAI. Select a single british opponent (Queen Elizabeth), Map: Texas and Starting Age: Discovery Age.
  • Difficulty should be "hard" or "expert".
  • Make a screenshot after you finished your game,
    where we can see scores and gametime.
  • Fill out the questionnaire and leave your email address
    and the scores. The content of your feedback will not influence your winning chances - just be honest about your experience

    Who wins the 100EUR?
    We will select the winner randomly among the persons who submittet a complete form. We d be happy if an admin of a community site could do this for us, so there wont be any doubts about this being done in a fair way.

    Where to get the installer and more information:
    http://www.ofai.at/research/aisoc/PsychoAI.html

    PS: If a moderator could make a newspost about this, that would be great

    Hey plexiq,

    I always like a good AI so I want to help you out. I don't need €100 for it though, so you may exclude me from that on forehand. Also I'll post it on my site to get a little more people to help you.

    @Latino heat III:
    1 game is all we ask for
    If you want to do more detailed testing, thats welcome - of course.

    @Argalius:
    Thanks

    If you dont mind, we ll just leave you in for the 100€. In case you win you can still choose to use the money for something community related (like hosting an AI tourney, hah)? *g*

    @Nodgene:
    Uh, actually we tried to do this without the money price. But only 3% of the ppl who downloaded actually cared to fill out the question form - and we need this feedback to finish the project. So, thats why we chose to give out money now

    Im a bit disappointed about the community anyway - some fansites told me they wont post a news entry about this "because they dont get anything out of it" (They want money for a newspost?, ugh..thx to aoe3.de for teachin me that lesson), other sites didnt reply at all... oh well I gues AI scripts dont generate much attention.

    We really need to get this testing done tho, so please help us finding people for testing. Thx!

    How much does the AI cheat`?

    "Especially awe-inspiring is the fact that any single brain is made up of atoms that were forged in the hearts of countless stars billions of years ago... These atoms now form a conglomerate – your brain – that can not only ponder the very stars that gave it birth but can also think about its own ability to think and wonder about its own ability to wonder. With the arrival of humans…the universe has suddenly become conscious of itself. This, truly, is the greatest mystery of all." - Rama

    About Cheating:
    Same ammount as default ai. Doesnt cheat except on difficulty "expert". At expert, the AI handicap is set to 1/1.4, if i remember correctly.

    I'll play it and fill out one of those forms for you. But, if I get randomly selected for the prize I want you to keep it. I just want to be put down as a playtester

    Maybe you can donate the money to Eazy, in case you win. He seems to be a veeeery busy guy

    @All:
    Testing progress is still going quite slow.

    In case there are any problems with installer/AI/questionaire please contact me. Any feedback is appreciated.

    I will test it too, if i win i will see what i can do for any Age community, dont need 100EUR :S. Maybe i will buy a Domain for my clan but thats not that expansive so i will use the rest for any thing else. (or i will give it back) but the chance that i will win is less then 1% (i hope, cause then you have lots of playtesters :P)

    I think quite a few people will do this in time.
    I'll certainly test for you... is there a deadline on the feedback? I've probably missed it mentioned somewhere.

    Edit: Upon testing, during the load of Texas, the game says the AI loader cannot be compiled, and the enemy proceeds to do nothing during the game.

    Deadline is the 2005-10-31,

    About the compile error: Did you download the correct installer for your Version (there is one installer for Demo1.1/Retail, and one for Demo1.0/older)?

    It worked fine for me. No apparent errors. Nice job. Cant compare it to normal AI that much though cause I had only played 1 actual skirmish before testing this. Ive spent all this time playing around with the editor.

    Only 2 more days to go, and still only ~20 participants for the 100EUR thingie. Please, if you know anyone interested in playing AI's, point him here. We *really* need some more testers. Thanks!

    Im pretty sure it wont take 20 years for AIs to match expert human level. We r still far from that, of course.

    I got a compile error on start-up, so the PC wouldn't do anything. And I did play with all the right settings and I did install the right version... for the old demo...

    Note about the old Demo:
    It runs fine on the Version we ve been testing on, but on some systems there seem to be weird problems with the xs-compilation.

    For the xs-script-interested:
    void function1(int a=-1)
    {...;}

    void function2(int a=-1, int b=-1)
    {...;}

    This fails with an error at 2nd function declaration, telling that "a" has already been defined. If you change first functions parameter from a to c, everythin is workin.

    Well, seems easy to fix - but we ve these kind of declarations all over the project. We wont fix it for the old demo, sorry. Its working fine on retail and 1.1 Demo (and even on some/most? Demo 1.0 installations).
