The “Strategic Objectives” 1V1 Online scenarios are now available for download:

Strategic Objectives: Cryptic Lakes 1V1

Strategic Objectives: Battle of the Bay 1V1

Each scenario has 4 versions
Two "Rush" maps and two semi "No Rush" maps.

New Features for AOE3

“Strategic Objectives” qualifies as a new game type.

1. It allows to capture neutral buildings that are guarded by guardians (such as Forts and Barracks), and even re-capture them from the AI and vice versa.
Captured buildings offer either economic bonus or military bonus (free units).

2. Players can capture Great Cannons and use them to construct Fixed Guns anywhere on the map.

3. Players can Teleport their armies behind enemy lines once they captured a sacred temple and rescued the Navajo Tracker.

1v1 Online Tournament

The Strategic Objectives 1v1 Online Tournament has started and there are 15 games prizes that are given away (including 5 AOE 3: The Asian Dynasties) as part of a drawing among the top 50% of the players.

Game play

These Online scenarios support all 11 civs and have high home cities with 25 card decks.

There are 20+ neutral structures around the map such as Forts, Barracks, Stables, Mills(with villagers) that are guarded by guardians (who are hostile to anyone who passes by) and any of these structures can be captured by any one of the players.
In order to capture any one of these structures the player has to have at least 7 units near it while no guardians or enemy units are left standing in that area.
In addition to that players can re-capture them from each other in the same way.

Since every building offers either economic bonus or military bonus it is crucial to capture as many of these structures in order to achieve victory.

New
Flag Bearers as Way Points:

Players can now use Flag Bearers as a way point for the free units from captured buildings.
Each building has its own Flag Bearer with the name of the building he belongs to.
Players can move Flag Bearers to any location and the free units that come out of the buildings will move towards the Flag Bearers.
This allows players to manage the deployment of free units in a better way and it pretty much works like the normal gathering point we have for each military building.

Flag Bearers are Invulnerable, and with NO line of site (so players cannot use them as spies).
They move fast and flash every 30 seconds.
Flag Bearers will return to their building when the building is re-captured.
If a player cannot locate a specific flag bearer, he can then send the Flag Bearer to its building by selecting the building and his main TC at the same time.

Great cannons can be captured just by one unit, and they cannot be re-captured.
Once a player captures any one of the Great Cannons he can use it to build a Fixed Gun anywhere on the map after he reaches the Fortress age.

Military buildings that can be captured are invulnerable (so they don't get destroyed) except for Outposts.

Players get free units from some captured buildings as long as they don't go over 250 population.

Free units and lower unit population allow for up to 200 unit armies (300-400 population).

Buildings that can be captured have two brown flags on both sides of the building.
That is how the player can know if that building can be captured or not.

There is no limit for the number of villagers players can train.
However, every 10 minutes the cost of villagers goes up by 100 food (up to 400 food).

When a mill or plantation (that can be captured) is destroyed, the 10 villagers that come with it will be destroyed automatically.

Balance Changes

- Villagers cost goes up by 100 food every 10 minutes up to a total cost of 400 food.
- Fishing boats are limited to 20.
- Fishing boats cost reduced to 60 wood.
- Military buildings have 1000 more HP
- Outposts cost reduced to 200 wood.
- Explorer has more HP so he doesn't get killed by guardians right away.
- Natives are cheaper.
- Cavalry and cannons take less population.
- Some mercenaries take less population.
- Fixed Gun's range was reduced by 15 (it is 55 now for land and still 70 against ships).

Instructions on how to build Fixed Guns:

Fixed Guns can be constructed anywhere on the map once the player gets to the Fortress age and captures a Great Cannon.

There are two ways to build Fixed Guns:
1. Select the Great Cannon and your Explorer at the same time (both of them have to be selected) and the Great Cannon will be converted into a Fixed Gun.

2. Select the Railroad Worker you captured and place it on top of the Great Cannon.

The second method requires more micro but it is also more rewarding.
Every time you use the second method, all your Fixed Guns will gain 5 range, 5000 HP, and your Railroad Worker will gain 1500 HP.

Be careful not to construct Fixed Guns too close to the water as they may be constructed under water and won’t be functional.

Fixed Guns are very powerful and can help to achieve victory.

Instructions on how to Teleport your army behind enemy lines:

Players can Teleport their armies behind enemy lines once they captured a sacred temple.

You capture the Aztec Temple when you build a native post right next to the temple.
You would also need to rescue the Navajo Tracker and his small army from the prison.
Once you control the Temple and rescue the Navajo Tracker you can Teleport your army from the Aztec Temple to the Navajo Tracker.

If the native post is destroyed then you would loose control of the Aztec Temple.

The Navajo Tracker has the Stealth ability which can allow you to send him deep into enemy territory undetected.

To Teleport your army from around the Aztec Temple to the Navajo Tracker, just select the Navajo Tracker and your Explorer at the same time.

If your Navajo Tracker is wounded you can then Teleport him to your TC by selecting the Navajo Tracker and your Railroad Worker.

Be careful not to place your Navajo Tracker too close to the edge of the map or the water.
That may cause some of the teleported units to get stuck outside the map or inside the water.

Special Thanks

I want to thank Schildpad (also known as Furby_Killer) for helping me test the various “Strategic Objectives” scenarios and for his important advice.
Schildpad’s help and feedback was most valuable.

I want to thank pftq for his great “Advanced Effects” that helped me enhance the AI to a new level, and to introduce the “Building Fixed Guns” feature.

I also want to thank somme for his brilliant “Villager Second Calculator” which I used for the free units balancing, and to kjn for making the screen shots for me.

Many thanks to Ensemble Studious for the Custom Scenarios Online (CSO) feature that all of us are waiting for impatiently.

Thank you,

Moshe Levi

Yes, these are based on the “Strategic Objectives” single player scenarios except that these scenarios are for 2 human players to play against each other on ESO.

All of them have the Teleport ability and they also include a new feature where there is a Flag Bearer as a way point for the free units from captured buildings (separate flag bearer for each building).

So now you can have your free units go anywhere you like them to go as soon as they spawn from the captured building.

I added a “Super Rush” version (for “Bay” and “Lakes”) for those who like rushing and raiding.
The files names for these scenario versions end with “SR4”.

In these new versions most buildings are guarded only be 3 guardians and the existing Fixed Gun is guarded only by 4 guardians.
So now players use spies to capture it with almost no casualties.

In these versions players can capture buildings very fast utilizing several armies in several locations at the same time.

I also added a new scenario version for “Battle of the Bay” where any of the 3 native civs start with 2200 HP war chief plus 2 native warriors.
There is one treasure near the fixed gun that has 2 Aztec warriors that can be rescued.

So you can send 1 native warrior to the fixed gun to capture it while you convert one of the guardians with the war chief.
Once you capture the fixed gun you capture the Railroad Worker, and you can use the fixed gun to kill the rest of the guardians.
When they are all killed the war chief can rescue the 2 Aztec warriors and that gives you a total of 7 military units.
So around 1 minute players can start capturing buildings with these units.

There are other treasures around with individual native warriors just in case you loose one of your units.

The new file name for this scenario is:
Strat Obj Onln 2Bays N4.age3Xscn

This should balance the native civs with the European civs.
