i am just curious with how many vills u age up to 2nd age. it wud be nice if u cud say, how many vills u use for each strat u use with each civ.
it also wud be nice if u wud say when u reach fortress age.
I got this idea when i saw a game of a german aging to 2nd age with 17 vills (17 vills pop wise cos of SW), while i usually age tzo 2nd age as ger with 14-15 vills. but he aged with 2-3 more vills and reached colonial age only ~20-30 secs later.
that made me think about how many vills u usually shud use for optimize ur eco by still having a good colonial time.
u dont need to talk bout 40 vills british colonial lol, and plz dont post stupid suggestions in which u say u reach colonial after ~5 mins or more wat many noobs do.
I woud be happy if u tell me ur fortress time and ur number of vills when u reach fortress aswell if u wanna FF.
thx

I play as ottoman and brits, so I can only talk about them (and I'm nowhere near an expert so my advice could be wrong). As brits I tend to age up with 16 or 17 villagers and while aging put 8 on food and 8 or 9 on wood, building a house or two while I age. If I am expecting a rush I will cut down the number of villies I age with to 13 or 14. If I want to FF I will only build 2 villagers in age 2 before aging (and I queued them while aging up to age 2). You can reach age 3 about 7:20 like this (though there are much better times).
As ottoman I just put send the 3 villager card in age 1 and age up when I have 800 food, which is normally with 11 villagers. I pretty much do this to age 2 whatever strategy I'm doing as not sending the 3 villager card really hurts your eco (unless you are on carolina maybe, and you send schooners and use the extra starting wood for a dock).

The general rule is that you keep building settlers until you have thee food ready to advance. The aim is to have no idle TC time, that is, your TC should always be doing something.
There are strats (for example the one I just posted) that have specific settler requirements but the above rule generally works for all civs. It's best to look at a specific strat.
As for fortress time, it varies from civ to civ but for an FF you generally want to hit Fortress around the 7:30-8:00 mark. Sometimes poeple go slower and maybe even faster but that's the kind of general times you should be looking for. Again, it's civ and strat specific so look for a strat.

civs that has special eco bonus can often benefit a lot from very fast colonial with minimal villager count, because age2 shipment can provide much boost. such civs are dutch fcuk, port 680p, russian racer and sometimes british.
on the other hand some strats avoid spend anytime in colonial ans save shipments till fortress, such as british 40vil, russian 20vil FF.
e. g. : when i play as germans, i age up with 14 vills (5 SW+ 4 vills) and reach colonial @ ~4:10. my fortress time is like 7:10 or so with ~21 vills (8 SW+ 5 vills [i made only 1 vill in colonial and sent 3 SW first in colonial]).

It's too hard to give exact counts because it all depends on the civ, strategy being used and HC level (if you don't have 700 gold for instance, the most common FF is harder to do).
But, in general, I'd just say that you want to hit colonial by around 4:30 with as many settlers as possible and then fortress by 7:30 with as many settlers as possible. Again, these are just general recommendations and assumes you are not schooner booming.
i already said that it wud be nice if u told me ur times and ur exact number of vills which each civ and strat u use.( i know this wud be a lot so its ok if u tell me ur number of vills and times with ur favorite civ and strat.

British Longbow Rush: 16 if starting w/300 food or 200 food 100 gold. Age at 4:10 if 300, 4:25 if 200. Age with 17 vills if 200 food/300 wood (build 2 houses) at 4:10-4:15. (see sig for details)
British Anti Fast Fortress: 25 vills, age at 5:45. Queu no vills. Click to age to fort at 6:00-6:10. (See sig for details)
hey dopple. with germans you can actually do a late colonial around 5 30 with 19pop of villagers early tp (if u start with xtra wood). then u up with the 500 food poli, and collect the gold you need for fortress. when u hit age 2 u wont need the 700 g/f shipment and can reach fortress at 7 15 if u get good treasures.
favourite civ otto: up to col with around 8 villagers at 4 min and use exiled prince to hit fortress at 5 30 with 10

It really depends on what civ, but here are some averages:
