I posted this over at SC2 heaven (under SC1- General Discussions Topics) and get the impression that they're a bunch of boneheads they don't check the SC1 threads anymore (the last one was updated Nov. 14, 2009)
So, I figured i'd post it here, seeing as several of you play starcraft (and i just like you guys more anyway)
I have seen many other complaints (other places; not here) about people having issues with the color and glitches in the game. For me, the color is messed up in the menus, but as soon as you get in the game, it's fine. I also have no glitches.
My problem is that the game window only takes up the top-left fourth of my monitor screen. I have tried several things, none of which have worked.
Things I have tried:
So, I right clicked on the Desktop and went to Screen Resolution. However, the smallest size is 800 x 600. So I set it at that, and got the exact same error message.
The final thing that I did was create a Virtual Machine with Windows XP, and install SC on that, but I had the exact same problem. (although the colors in the menu were fine)
So, does anyone know how to fix this problem? I'm not a computer guy, so i'm not sure of the specs on the computer or monitor, but i could probably find something if you can tell me what and where to find it.
Thanks
Any suggestions?
Keep him from expanding. Keep him scared. Keep him making the wrong type of troops. Control the game, don't react to it.

Things I have tried:
Under compatibility, set Starcraft to run in XP compatibility mode.Same problem, screen only takes up 1/4 of the monitor
1) Right click the Starcraft icon ->After doing this, I get an error message that says "Starcraft was unable to switch video modes. To correct this problem, please set Desktop Area to 640 x 480 and Color Palette to 256 colors and try running Starcraft again."click Properties -> go to the Compatibility tab.
2) Check ALL the Settings, EXCEPT Compatibility Mode.
3) When you are ready to play, right click your desktop and click "Screen Resolution". Leave this window open and launch Starcraft!

Open a new .txt document and paste in the following:Tried that, and had the exact same problem
taskkill /f /IM explorer.exe
D:\"StarCraft"\"StarCraft.exe"
start explorer.exe
the 2nd line needs to direct towards your SC Directory (so C\"Games\Starcraft"\"StarCraft.exe" for a lot of you)
When you save the file, save it as a .bat file and use that to launch Starcraft. It will terminate explorer while SC is running, and when you close SC explorer automatically restarts. This is the only fix i have found that works for my setup; Windows 7, Build 7100 w/ Nvidia 7950 GT.
