Topic Subject:French Booming - How do you stop it??

Well, i was playing with the brits vs a french opponent; it was 30 minutes no rush (actually a ridiculous amount of time, but there you go...), of course, we had both stocked up a large army, and we were both ready to go. So the battle came - it was him who attacked me - and i really, really got owned. All my beautiful map control, my thoughtfully assembled army - it was no use, i got poohned like a freeking noob. The problem is: What in the hell does a brit (or btw any civ) do vs a mixture of skirkmishers and cuirs?? The problem is, that if you bring your heavy inf, it gets badly owned by the skirms, whilst if you bring light inf, you get the same effect, as cuirs rape about just anything that isn't musket, janissary or halb. I thought about building dragoons, but then he just decided to keep his cuirs back and really got to me by pumping out more skirms and, even worse and far more effective vs my dragoons, muskets (which my lbows did eventually own, but way to late as by the time they did, he had killed all my dragoons and had 50 more on their way). So: WHAT THE HELL DO I DO??
Please help me, or ill be forced to dump the brits and start playing french myself (actually, they make a much better civ anyway, because their rush is extremly powerful too).

If you want to stop a Frenchman from booming, don't play Treaty.

Treaty games vs french? very difficult, try to find away of getting the coin collecting villagers he has, since this stops production of both Cuirs, Skirms and Cannon.

If you cant kill the villies, you'll lose, because the french army late game, when used to its optimum, is incredible.

In Treaty ,
Provided you have the economy you should have ,
Germans & sometimes aztecs > French > Everything else=
War Wagons and Dopplesoldners or even dopplesoldners alone OR Skull Knights > Cuirassiers > everything else.

Problem with the Germans vs France is their Doppels are countered by Voltigeurs, though if you can block Cuirassiers from getting to your War wagons you can deal with that quite effectively.

You can always use your Factories to produce Rockets for countering Voltigeurs, but surround them with Muskies to prevent Cuir ownage.

I find that the Portuguese, though mostly an Underpowered civilization, counters the French quite well. A handful of Organ guns will slice through Skirmies like a hot knife through butter, and if you protect them with Portuguese Super-dragoons, they are nigh impossible to get to by any unit.

Finally, I create an extra deck especially for long NR games. I eliminate things that will not help for very long, EG, no ironmonger, no 'advanced' mills, plantations or trading posts, no resource shipments, and absolutely NO military unit shipments. All of my cards are either military upgrades, defense upgrades (EG, stronger walls or Extensive Fortifications), unbuildable buildigns such as forts or factories, or collection improvements for trees, mills and plantations.

EDIT: Personally I like NR games because it's more of a show of military strategy rather than one's ability to find the best 'Build Order' floating around the internet. Micromanagement, in my opinion, sucks the fun right out of the game.

Real men deal with walls.
