Is this a balance issue? Maybe we should petition ES for a nerf patch.

It's supremely annoying. I tried spamming towers, and then ended up losing map control, not to mention the fact they ended up deconstructing them anyways. Cavalry eats up too much gold. The silly valor god power eats up your myth units.

British are pretty strong, especially in team games but it it somewhat counteracted by the fact that British are fairly weak in early colonial due to the setup animation of longbows and the fact they have less wood to spare whilst the 'free' settlers are paying for themselves.

British also have a fairly weak early fortress due to the lack of auto-veteran units and as a result need the slightly stronger economy to level the playing field.

That's why they shouldn't FF. Brits are all about colonial spazzing. Doesn't mean they can't scurry to fortress real quick and falc/musk your bum.

Joke threads go in this forum if they're on topic, right? Just making sure.

FYI, I figured I was giving away the tongue-in-cheek nature of this thread when I mentioned petitioning ES for a patch. You don't see anything wrong with that?

Mostly the things you pointed out. Also the fact the ES no longer exists. It was a commentary on what I view as GD culture. There is a lot of whining on occassion about getting certain civs nerfed for odd reasons.

Mostly though I think it's funny that someone who doesn't post here came in and made a thread about how the British are OP.

Unfortunately, jokes are never very funny when you explain them so sorry if it didn't make you laugh =)

Oh also this particular thread was made in a different forum and was a commentary on the community awards being held in an innapropriate forum. Then elpea had to go and move it because he's a brat.

British get free villagers because every civ gets an economic boost. We thought that spawning villagers from houses would be cool for two reasons:

1) it sort of historically mimics the fact that the British managed to build up colonies "on the spot" without proper support from Europe.

2) it makes the British do something DIFFERENT in the early game, which we think is fun. Players new to the British have to experiment. It would be boring if all the nations were the same at the start (like they sort of are in AoE and AoK). We really wanted to give players unique experiences from the start. That's why so many Age III nations are weird early on. Plus we like the fact that the British free villagers is unimportant in the late game.

Hahaha all it takes to get real background information about the basis of the games bonuses is for the Salooners to invade.

Thanks Sandy!

Man Nick, why couldn't you be this useful when I was Seraph...

Thanks for stopping by Sandy! A rare insight into what went into games is always cool.

By the way, just several of us in the Saloon portion of this site have been playing some AoM recently. I'm still amazed by just how much darn fun that game can be 6 years after release

Welcome to AOE3H forum ES_Sandyman,

It is nice to see you visiting us.

I like to play the British very much myself.
Racing to get as many free villagers as possible before getting rushed is cool and exciting.

Whose idea was it by the way?
Do you remember?

That's a good one. Also why do the Portuguese get a free town center? Was it just something to balance them out or did it have a basis in real life?

BTW, thanks for answering my questions. Getting insight like this from someone who helped design a game I play is rare and I really appreciate you taking the time.
