Wow, Rurik, you must be feeling pretty good. After all it is fairly easy to break everything I have to say into smaller pieces and then stamp on them.
First of all, the mentality in Science is that the results must ALSO be acheived by another scientist performing the exact same experiment. It must be repeatable.
Secondly, the reason I said 'whole host of other information' is not calling 2 facts that. This is a message board (forum) and I don't feel like going into depth on Atlantis. Going even shallow into the theories could be a Master's Thesis.
Thirdly, when I said Herodotus I meant Plato. I was still thinking about Egypt and the pyramids at the time. That is the only thing that I will give you.
Fourthly, that is the wonderful thing about mysteries. I feel that the people that say 'it only comes to insiders' are absolute pinheads, but I do say that there are still great mysteries in the world. Do not come and break apart everything I have to say into little pieces and proceed to 'discredit' them. I said they are theories. It just seems odd that there are so many 'legends' that seem very similar. This is not just a random occurrence-try comparing American mythology to Western Mythology. They aren't even remotely similar except for the aspects of Pantheons, gods, and the legend of soem advanced civilization that disappeared off the face of the earth. You can read them in: Noah's Ark, Gilgamesh, Plato, and some Aztec writing (it is known by the Aztecs as Atlon).
There are so many compelling arguments that it is difficult to discredit them. One person says Atlantis is actually a group of islands north of Crete that were covered by a massive volcanic explosion that sent debris as far as Egypt at circa 1500BC. Another person says that a circular land mass can be seen by satellite buried under the ice at the south pole. Another person says that it is buried under the sea. Scientists found the ruins of the original city of Troy just by plotting the coordinates written down by Homer in the Iliad. All I'm saying is that people should be more open-minded.
You know, I'm kind of insulted that you would read what I have to say and lump Atlantis in with Neverland, Liliput, Utopia, and Erewhon. None of us were there to see Atlantis. It is still one of the mysteries along with Stone Henge and the pyramids. No one can prove, even today, when the pyramids and the sphinx were built. Not even with our 'superior technology'. Did you even read what I said about the underwater theory? I'll repeat it for you: Also the fact that the 'Titanic' is in dangerous state of decomposition. My point? The Titanic has only been underwater for a couple of decades. Atlantis sunk thousands of years ago-for all we know it was the Atlanteans that built the pyramids. We'll never know.
This means that decomposition and erosion could have removed all traces of any ancient civilization that existed and 'sunk' over 3500 years ago. I'm just trying to keep the possiblity open. I cannot prove the existence of Atlantis and I don't appreciate people acting like the whole mystery rests on my shoulders. Just because we can find no traces (ie. above) doesn't mean that it never existed. Underwater currents are much more powerful in removing traces than wind is.
Oh, by the way, one website called skepdic.com is not going to prove or disprove any theory out there. I'll agree that fanatics ruin a lot of things, but the ones who say "if I can't see it, touch it, taste it, smell it, or hear it, it must not be real" are worse. According to this way of thinking, there is no such thing as wind. You can't see wind, you can only see the effect that it has on objects. You can't hear it, that is just wind rushing past your ears creating the sound. You can't taste or smell it; that is caused by small molecules of a substance being carried by wind. You can't touch it or hold it in a container. Yet we know it's there.
Oh, and those pathways I was talking about? They are called the Bimini roads. Do you really think that I am stupid enough to think that the trenches are roads? Thanks for insulting my intelligence.
