Yeah. I'd like to see a pop cap of 200 or something, it really wouldn't be a problem for me, I don't mind.
I think having caps on certain units isn't a good idea. I mean, say you have a tiny game, with a pop cap of 100 per player, and player 2 builds 25 cannon (assuming they're 2 per unit - which they probably will be) so that's 50 pop cap. They then wheel these cannon into the no man's land and line them up and attack Player 1. Player one is hopelessly 'outpowered' due to a line of cannon. However, he simply has to counter these units with some cavalry and melee foot units.
No strategy is flawless. There's a way to counter everything in games - it's just working the best strategy that works for you in any given situation.
I for one, can't foresee any major problems with artillery, but I would love for them to pack more of a punch than in previous strategy games, especially to human units.
However, this doesn't mean to say I agree with the ideas regarding swords & ammunition being one-hit-kill against other units. This should remain 'realistic', but still allow for the usual flow of combat.
