Imagine both you and your opponent are equal players. 1v1 Arabia. Both Huns. (omgz itz teh boring settingz no stragedee involved!)
You both rush at 12 minutes or so after doing a 11:00 Feudal. You both go range/range and mass skirms.
You then proceed to do minor damage to each other's economies (since you can't do TOO much with a few skirms) and fight a few skirmishes between your small armies. After a while, your armies get bigger and you switch to scouts/archers and battles become more intense (20+ archers and 10+ scouts on each side is pretty hectic).
Then you both reach Castle at around the same time and start pumping knights and booming like crazy. You raid with knights, try to stop his raids, etc. Soon you both have 10-20+ knights running around, raiding each other's economies, trying to get the upper hand (like elevation or something) and destroy the other group.
After your 3rd TC is up and you can afford it, you switch to pikes backed with cavalry archers. These destroy his remaining knights, but he's got his own pike/CA combo. You drop a castle on him, but he gets up a defensive one and gets some rams and pushes you back. You're now spamming units non-stop from 5-10 military buildings, trying to maintain your econ, micro your army, and keep the spam going. Units die within seconds after they're built if you're not careful. You switch the rally points back and try to rebuild a mass and keep him from overrunning you.
You go to Imperial and keep spamming units from tons of buildings, though he's beating you. You reach Imp, but you can afford only a few upgrades and get the HCA and bracer upgrades and hope your remaining CAs can defeat him. Your HCAs beat his pike/CA combo nicely and you grab the halb upgrade and then trade a little for the hussar upgrade to take out the eskirms he's massing.
But things keep going without you gaining the upper hand, he reaches Imp and gets his needed techs. Both of you are soon out of gold and relying on the market. The last patches of wood are being exhausted and you're frantically trying to keep your economy going so that you can keep your unit spam coming.
Finally your hussar spam damages his farming enough that you gain the economic upper hand so your few remaining rams and halb/eskirm/hussar combo takes down his TC guarding his last remaining wood. It's gg.
Tell me that's not "epic"?
Rushing involves a great deal of strategy if you're both rushing. It also does if you're NOT both rushing, since if you're rushing you need to figure out how to keep them from getting an advantage.
If you're just a slow clicker, practice. Use hotkeys. If you don't want to practice, then play in "no rush" games and be happy. You can't complain about losing if you don't try to get better.
I dont get the "I want to build then a have a epic battle" idea. Why not start fighting as soon as you can and have 10-20-30-40 "epic" battles, or have the whole game be one epic battle.
