I don't know actually...i'm not sure who i'll play first, but probably the Spanish (just find their culture and history really intriguing....had the entire world, but lost it to classism/racism....extreme sense of honor....but probably annihilated cultures and potential world powers more brutally and effectively than any group in history...could have conquered Europe...but failed to chance....extremely generous heroes, and vilest villains - Spanish history is just so full of might have beens and extreme contrasts - intrigues me).
As a side note - as someone pointed out, Britain didn't rise to power until after Elizabeth...From a little ahead of the Spanish Armada and back until the European discovery of America the Spanish (especially once Charles V inherited Spain and Southern Italy and the Holy Roman Empire and when his son Phillip II inherited Portugal as well) dominated (look at the Thirty Years War and the other German wars, and even the internal French Wars of the time - Spanish elite infantry keep showing up everywhere). And before the Armada, Portugal was probably the number 2 power (that and Catholic beliefs brought about the Treaty of Tordesillas, 1 and 2). Britain only rose to power later...and the rest weren't real colonial powers, though several, such as the Dutch and the French, had smaller holdings. Small is relative...not as in size, but importance to the home nation...Spain, Portugal, and Britain, and especially Spain and Britain depended utterly on their colonies, and once these colonies were gone, their global dominance dissappeared too - case in point: Latin America - mainly Lower and Upper Peru (Peru and Bolivia) and to a lesser degree, Mexico, for Spain, and India for Britain. Only Spain, Portugal, and Britain became near super-powers because of colonial holdings. (and the Ottomans and more locally the Inca, but that was because of colonial activities on the same landmass).
And the comment about Patriotism and Nationalism is completely inaccurate (no offense intended)...you can't compare them. Patriotism is an emotional reaction...Nationalism is a political/revolutionary/ideological movement and a historical event.
And Hitler was pretty close to all bad...he was just really efficient in being bad ("carried away" is really far, far to mild an interpretation)...he might have even won the war if he didn't have his racial policies...of course he might not have gained power without them....alternative histories get really tricky there. Then again, without Hitler, Rommel and the Luftwaffe commanders could have maintained the German Reich...and perhaps without his racial policies, Hitler would be remembered as a Napoleon, rather than he is remembered now. I try to judge most historical figures in historical context, but in this case, i judge Hitler as bad, even/especially for both contemporary and modern standards.
And Canada has a future as a global power, imho . They are already G8 (or G7 + 1 or whatever it is now), a quite wealthy country, economically powerful, room to expand, and have a solid trade basis. Canada and Russia are two of the few remaining countries with truly a giant pile of natural resources remaining. And perhaps global warming will make it more accesible....but i think the more likely future (long, long term) is a mini-globalization movement, and Canada+US are going to unite, especially since 90% of the Canadian populace is something like 100-200 miles from the American border. And that will be the first step to globalization (we already share the same power grid...and thats very very rare). However....thats just speculation on my part...and very unresearched and without too solid a foundation.
