Quoted from Elpea:

Direct link from GameArena so you don't have to go through the dang registering:
http://ga4.games.bigpond.com:3333/downloads/1117469070/e3-2005-mm-aoe3.wmv

The requested URL /downloads/1117469070/e3-2005-mm-aoe3.wmv was not found on this server.

I'll just see if I go through another registration just for this ... but the first video imo includes some nice scenes.

Whe I play the 1st video...it isn't a video. It seems to be more of a slideshow with a new pic every 10 seconds...
Is it becuse my computer can't cope with the quality level, or is that what it's like? (Just so's I know whether or not to bother transferring it to my faster comp)

Actually, I think my d/l is corrupt: it doesn't play to the end of the file. *sigh* restart d/l...

Bye. Ahhh, just found the post that started it all. Thanks Elpea, for your retarded reaction to my first post in this forum. I hope you grow up some day. Hope AoE3 crashes your computer every time you try to play it.

Your opinion is very welcome... but it'd be even better if any of us had tried the game .

IMO Rise of Nations offers a lot of microing, even when you don't have to build dozens of lumber camps around a single forest, you need to constatly control lumber camps and the city around it,not to count the other ~9 resources you had to manage and the cities.

But I agree that toning down economy isn't really great... However, we're yet to see.

about the formations, its a straegy game and it is good that we now have to use our brains for a good strat instead of just creating units

I think I will miss the economic side of AoE because I always felt like I had really succeeded in two aspects after a win, economically and military wise.

Ok, we have to actually play the game first to make any real complaints or such, but im sure ES are making this game really good

One point I do agree with you, jk01101, is the Ctrl+E which RoN implemented, I hated that, thats not exloring thats just a way of getting the map visible after a gradual period of time.

I adored scouting on AoE2 with the scout, there was something about that state of mind where to go next and where is the enemy located, most of the times you could make an educated guess though

Also, when you saw an enemies scout in aoe2 within your line of site, and you move towards it with a few villagers to kill it then he moves you know the player has spotted that and that to me was, and still is fun

I am sure ES are going to make this game great to play along with the 'stunning visuals'.

It was useless anyway, only beginners used it simply because the scout sucked at choosing where to go

jk0101101010101001:

I have the same fear as you have =/

I've been hoping that when Ensemble decided to do all these things to lower the amount of economy management, they would do it in a way that doesn't hurt the economical aspect of the game. I don't see how that's possible now, but maybe I'll be surprised. The villager cap, lack of resource drops, and only 3 resources mined by villagers has been a big turn off for me.

I enjoyed the economical aspect of the age games more than the military since age of empires I. To me, the age games have been about building an empire, not about fighting over them. Everyone knows the great devide between blizzard RTSes and ES RTSes is the economical strategy.

My only hope is that it will work in practice. I know ES knows what they're doing, but I also know how easy it is to lose a vision of a game you've been making for so long. I hope ES doesn't go too far with this.

Hopefully it will work out, I've convinced myself it will, just so I don't have to worry about it ES has yet to garbage out a game, so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.

Edit: Yes, EE had the auto explore. It was garbage.

Well, I'll certainly miss micromanaging the eco as much, but my sister'll miss it the most.
My sister doesn't really like fighting in AOE games. She prefers to play a game with no/a very easy enemy, and have fun building an empire from scratch. She loves watching her stockpiles grow, and laying out her houses in neat little rows...she treats it almost like 'the Sims'.
And she's not the only one out there. Micro-ing complicated eco will be missed by many.
