I have the same fear as you have =/
I've been hoping that when Ensemble decided to do all these things to lower the amount of economy management, they would do it in a way that doesn't hurt the economical aspect of the game. I don't see how that's possible now, but maybe I'll be surprised. The villager cap, lack of resource drops, and only 3 resources mined by villagers has been a big turn off for me.
I enjoyed the economical aspect of the age games more than the military since age of empires I. To me, the age games have been about building an empire, not about fighting over them. Everyone knows the great devide between blizzard RTSes and ES RTSes is the economical strategy.
My only hope is that it will work in practice. I know ES knows what they're doing, but I also know how easy it is to lose a vision of a game you've been making for so long. I hope ES doesn't go too far with this.
Hopefully it will work out, I've convinced myself it will, just so I don't have to worry about it ES has yet to garbage out a game, so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.Edit: Yes, EE had the auto explore. It was garbage.
