It may not actually matter by Mid 2006. Apple (if you follow it) has announced that the rumors are true: Apple is planning a switch from IBM PowerPC based CPUs (e.g. G5) to the Intel x86 based CPUs (e.g. Intel P4 3.6Ghz). The transition will begin starting Mid-2006 (June) and is expected to be almost fully complete by June 2007. That means that starting in June of next year, you'll start seeing P4 based MACs on sell from APPLE, and by June 2007, you'll ONLY see P4 based MACs... no more G5's.
That said, the "porting" will essentially be done for you. The necessity to "port" is predominantly (if not wholly) due to the way the Processor processes commands. Therefore, aside from driver support (for the peripherials like Video Card, etc.) the major work will already be done.
So, rejoice MAC fans! (I'm not really one myself, but I've grow a little more "tolerant" of MACs and their fanbase)
You'll get your "port" afterall!!! (You just have to wait another year for it, and then of course shell out more cash to get a new MAC that uses a x86 based processor.
