I saw the specs thread and have come across many other threads dealing with system specs that ask about running Aoe3. I plan on upgrading my computer so it can run Aoe3 better and basically other modern games.

My current specs are:
Dell Dimension 4700
Intel Pentium 4 3.00ghz processor
512mb Ram
Ati Radeon x300 SE

I was just wondering if any of you had any suggestions about what I should upgrade to inhance my gaming experience. I plan on uprading to 1 gig of ram but am confused about the video cards. Thanks a lot, I appreciate any replies.

This may not not apply to many people but it sure does to some I know of:

A) too stupid to build a computer
B) too lazy to build a computer
C) can't be bothered to build a computer

There are'nt alot of people looking to build computers, they are asking questions and we are answering them. Obviously any "pre-built" computer is overpriced compared to a "self-built" computer, but most are'nt looking to do that. IMO Dell offers the best bang for their buck when it comes to "pre-built" computers.

And Thank you DS for replying and enlightning us with that information. That should go on the front page of AoE3H IMO.

a) I'm pretty sure that if you are capable of using a computer, posting at this forums, and playing AoM then you have proven yourself perfectly intelligent enough to build a computer
b)It takes work to earn $1000+ it would take to get a dell comp that will play aoeIII. Unless you are relying on rich parents to pay for everything for you I think you would want to make sure you get the most from your money.
c) why not? obviously if they are asking questions about computers and which components they should get are already on the right track for building their own computer.

I'm considering building my next computer myself, but after googling for half an hour, I still can't find any guides for how to do it. Can someone post a link to a good site? If it's possible, I want an site in swedish, but if there are no good swedish sites, I can do with an english one.

I rather pay a company to build it for me and have the safe feeling that it was'nt built incorrectly and have a warranty and help service. But that's just me.

Whatever you do, make sure you don't buy components that are too fast for the rest of your system, example: if you bought DDR PC3200 and your CPU goes as high as PC 2700 than you are just wasting your money away.

If you do not know anything about computers, this is a good place to start:

Now as for myself this is what I ll be having for AoE :

Part/ QTY
Processor : AMD Athlon 64 4000+ w/ 1MB Cache x1
CPU Heatsink / Fan : AMD Retail Heatsink and Fan x1
Motherboards : Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe w/ DualDDR400, 7.1 Audio, Gigabit Lan, 2 x PCI -E x16 SLI x1
Memory : Kingston 1GB PC3200 DDR SDRAM CAS 3 x2
Case : Antec Performance TX1050B SOHO Tower w/ 500W SmartPower 2.0 x1
Power Supplies : Antec 500W SmartPower 2.0 Included with Case x1
Monitoring Device : Matrix Orbital MX222 USB Character LCD (Aluminum w/ inverse blue backlight) x1
Hard Drives 1 : Seagate 250GB Barracuda 7200.8 Serial ATA w/ NCQ, 8MB Cache x2
Hard Drives 2 : None 0
Optical Drive 1 : LiteOn 16x16 DVD+/-RW Dual Layer Drive, Black (OEM) x1
Optical Drive 2 : None 0
Video Cards : BFG Geforce 7800 GTX OC 256MB PCI-E w/ Dual DVI, VIVO x2
Monitors : Samsung SyncMaster 930BF 19in Digital LCD, 4ms, Black x1
Sound Cards : Onboard 8-Channel 7.1 Audio x1

What would be a high end card that would work with my system, and what are some cards that are close to high end but less money. I don't want to have to spend $700, but I wouldn't mind something in the $300-$400 range. And the max might be alittle more than that. Thanks

And I already plan on upgrading the ram soon, its only a matter of time.
